Default Why is FFVI such an awesome game?

    (poll incoming)

Also, what are some personal reasons why you like this game? It's always fun to think back on how this game hit you the first time you played it.

As I said on my stream earlier, the optional downer scene concerning Celes and Cid really shook me up. Though NOA tried to censor it, the actions happening on screen was VERY clear to me.

I'm quite fond of the fact that the controller has a cord myself.

That's pretty cool too, but I also like how the game can be seen on a TV screen while playing.

It can be seen? wth? I always just hold the cartridge and meditate until the game plays in my mind.

Not gonna lie, it was Terra's green hair that pulled me in. Gameplay, the cool opening intro added to the PS1 re-release, soundtrack were fun too, but as a kid I was attached to things for the most trivial of reasons.

    Green hair.

Sephex, you are a sadist for not letting me choose more than one option on your poll, therefore, I REFUSE to vote it it >:[

I'm going to give a serious answer. The freeform nature of the World of Ruin where you can do as much or as little as you want in whatever order you want was an absolutely superb piece of gameplay design and one that FF has never managed to come close to yet with the possible exceptions of, rather surprisingly, X-2 and XIII-2. The sheer depth of VI is still unmatched though.

    :monster:

Agr'd with Psy. The World of Ruin also had a stunning atmosphere that frankly has been equalled by few other video games I've played. The opening Midgar sequence of FFVII is another example (sadly the rest of the game failed to live up to that high standard). (A few other examples are the Kingdom of Zeal in Chrono Trigger, Pure/Holy Land in Secret of Mana, and the sequence of Marathon 2 from "This Side Toward Enemy" to "Requiem for a Cyborg", with the levels "My Own Private Thermopylae" and "Kill Your Television" standing out as particular highlights).

It also doesn't hurt that this is possibly the finest soundtrack Uematsu ever composed, which is saying a lot.

This game sucked. You can tell since they scrap the WoB halfway through the game and give you the WoR. Could not do a game right with one map, eh, Squaresoft?

I only played this for the first time a couple of years ago. It is truly a fantastic entry and if I had played it when it was first released... nostalgia would probably put it first on my list of Final Fantasy games.

The characters and storyline were what stood out for me. The breaking of the world and transition to WoR was phenomenal.
