    Default Kevin Smith Films

    I loved Dogma and Mallrats.

Clerks 2 and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back were whatever.

How would you rate his movies?

I think they are all really unbearable.

Clerks was overrated, Mallrats was tolerable, Chasing Amy and Dogma were good, Jay and Silent Bob was horrible, Jersey Girl was hilariously bad, Clerks 2 was horrendous, and Zack and Miri gave me a few chuckles. Haven't seen the rest.

His movies are filled with badly written pop culture references.

I liked Clerks but I agree it's overrated. Mallrats was not great, but I enjoyed it. Dogma was probably his best film, and Chasing Amy is very good too. Jay and Silent Bob was more of a homage to his other movies than anything else. It doesn't stand alone as a good movie and isn't supposed to. I haven't seen anything else since.

He's not the best director but I do find his films enjoyable. :mymelrelaxed:

I absolutely love Mallrats, and Dogma and Chasing Amy are both pretty good too. I agree with Del in his assessment of Jay and Silent Bob - it's just one big in joke and it's fun if you enjoy it for that. I also agree with others that Clerks is overrated.

I haven't seen too many of his films and had to look him up to remember what all he did. I saw Dogma as a kid, but only remember a line from the ending and Silent Bob's reaction to seeing a demon or something. I think my parents have Cop Out on DVD that I have been meaning to watch since I like Bruce Willis.

His films are pure trout. Yes, all of them; even Mallrats and Dogma. The only one I can slightly stomach is the later because it actually has some interesting critique on religion. The people in Clerks are not actors and you can tell. They don't allow any breaths in between the dialogue. Clerks is probably the second worse; Clerks 2 being the first. I don't get the appeal of the film that was obviously trying to be a cult hit before it even became one.

I find them enjoyable but not in a "oh man, that was great" way. I think Dogma is better than the others I've seen (Clerks, Mallrats), but they have their amusement factor.

I really liked Cop Out the first time I saw it but thought it was pretty subpar the second time.

I really like Dogma, Chasing Amy and Jersey Girl (hey, I'm a Jersey boy) a lot.

Mall Rats and Zack & Miri are pretty funny.

Clerks isn't my thing but I still enjoyed them.

I've also seen the DVD of an evening with Kevin Smith. I like what he has to say and his Hollywood stories are some of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Clerks 2 is, without a doubt, the worst movie I have ever watched.

I really liked Clerks. I liked Dogma and Clerks II. Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back were okay.

Dogma is certainly his most "thoughtful" film, but it still suffers from the same unevenness that most of his work does. I agree with the sentiment that Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is purely a love letter to Kevin Smith fans, the actual plot is a mess. Clerks II is just a weak rehash of the original.

I think the last Kevin Smith movie I saw was Red State. It was interesting, but not really a favorite.

I saw Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob ages ago, and none of them have stuck to me.

All in all, his movies are just all right, in my opinion.

I watched Clerks years ago and thought it was okay, but didn't really see what all the fuss was about. Dogma was a bit better, but can't say I'm a particularly big fan of his films. I quite liked Zack and Miri Make a Porno, in that I didn't take it too seriously and enjoyed it for what it was.
