It is odd playing with such child-like sprites and then seeing a very adult face in their portraits.

I actually like the portraits, but I agree they clash with the sprites.

I could be mistaken but I believe that other than the spring in the cave to South Figaro there aren't any other recovery springs or buckets...

There's one in the Phantom Forest as well

My impression of most of the game has improved somewhat, but the character sprites still look like trout and the art styles still clash horribly

I disagree a bit about the black border on the sprites. I'd prefer it not be a stark black, but it's about the only thing keeping the sprites from being totally washed out at the moment.
