If money is really an issue you could always look for a used one of either. I saw a used 3DS going for only ninety bucks and a used 2DS that was ten bucks less. You're taking a risk depending on the conditioning of the product and how honest the seller is, but if you really care about saving money it could be a good investment and you can always return it. I got some good deals on used games when it came to Ninja Gaiden and Eternal Darkness.

My question is is the 3D worth the extra money?

If you look for highly rated sellers, you're usually going to be all right. Gamestop or whatever you have near you might also sell used handhelds, and there you can see the condition of the item before buying it.

The 3D isn't worth the extra money for me, but the folding functionality definitely is.

Gee, $20 bucks difference. I'm whelmed.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

The biggest factors for me was deciding about comfort and price, over screen size and 3D functionality. (Folding didn't bother me so much since I never carried the regular 3DS [or even original DS] around in my pocket). A new 2DS was going to be $130. The thing that snagged me up was that Nintendo was selling refurbed 3DS XL's on their site for 150. I was just really waiting for my tax return to see where I stood. Once I got it, I decided to risk getting the XL from Nintendo (despite people saying that they still get claw-hand from it and that the 2DS is by far the most comfortable). Hate to be a pirate and all, but Nintendo tried to charge me tax on an online order. Legit, but I don't have to deal with that from other places. And with shipping it was going to be $170 >.> So without even considering the 2DS anymore, I went to Amazon and found someone selling it new for 170. So that's what I did. Since I can't get my girlfriend to let go of the one we're borrowing from her friend. I finally acquired my own. And she's so pre-occupied with the Rune Factory 4 I got her, she won't be jealous of all the time I'll be spending with Bravely Default, muahaha... (Yay income tax returns?)

So by a sweet and pleasant surprise, I ended up getting one of these today . I tried out the 2DS and the 3DS in the store and I liked them both, they both worked fine. The 3DS was $170 and there was a refurbished 2DS for $120. I liked the 3DS a little bit more, but not $50 more. So with that extra $50, I got to get a second game instead!

I like the Idea of the 2DS, but it's not for me. I have freakish man hands so they aren't the right size to fit me. 2DS XL maybe.

I was planning to get Bravely Default, because it was the most recommended, but there were only 2 copies of Fire Emblem: Awakening between two stores, so I got that one since there was a large number of the others available, and then I got Pokemon X because it's more lighthearted, instead of getting two heavier games right off the bat.

Next I plan to get Bravely Default, then Zelda, then I want to try the Scribblenauts game.

I tend to but 90% of my games online. They are rarely cheaper in store than from amazon and others.

I've certainly found cases where the opposite is true. If you are looking for an older game or a niche title with a limited production run, the online prices can tend to remain steady (or even climb if it's only available via ebay or third-party sellers), while if you can manage to find the same title in-store (sometimes a big "if"), the price will probably have dropped considerably, especially if you know a good used game trader, or a GameStop which has a good selection of older or used titles (and I have both in my town). This is less true than it used to be, as the greater general availability of games (via downloads, etcetera) has helped stabilized the market some, but it does definitely still affect some of the games I usually hunt for.

Plus, I loathe and despise Amazon on both a personal and a professional level. I find their business practices despicable, and they are one of the primary competitors to my own store.

Fortunately, the only top-notch 3DS title that is difficult to find at all is Rune Factory 4, and I find that it's actually a lot easier to get now than it was at launch.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

New Games for me a usually cheaper online for example The Wind Waker HD was £49.99 at my local game retailer, but was £32 online (think it was amazon). That to me is a no brainier to which one I'll get. More obscure titles and such I still buy local. We picked up Disgea D2 for £30 from a local game store which mirrors the price online. Finds like this are often hard to come buy though, especially now we own practically every game in existence.

I just bought Infinite Space from the English UK Amazon marketplace from a private seller, and beat the American prices by about $40, and nobody was underhandedly robbed via Amazon corporate monopoly. Yay
