Thread: Do you teach everyone magic?

Default Do you teach everyone magic?

I personally abhor the task of running around grinding for magic, I prefer to get the bloody game overwith, but for those of you who simply have a plan, who do you teach magic and why?

    What's your magic-teaching process like?

I leave out Cyan and Sabin, because I intend to use them in the Coliseum later, and I leave out Mog, as I am unable to avoid using Dance whenever his turn comes up (except strangely when I'm trying to learn a dance), and after he starts dancing, he can't cast magic anyway.

I leave out Setzer cuz Setzer's a jerk and probably says to the party "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side," and then downs another swig of bourbon.

I teach them all Magic because I like a versatile team, but I only teach a couple of people as much magic as possible. But I'm usually just cycling the espers, it's not like "oh no they must learn everything" except for the first lot; everybody learns those basic spells just in case.

Yeah, that's the ticket. The Magitech Facility is tough so I like to have some magic on my side.

I usually teach everyone Phoenix's spells in the desert by Maranda. It's fast and everyone has powerful healing spells, which is always useful.

I tend to wait to really launch into teaching magic until after I have Seraphim, because more than anything else, I want everyone to have basic medical abilities. Carbuncle is nice too, for various utility-based stuff...

Have you ever tried keeping a character magic-free for the Coliseum? It's always nice when one more attack will win the fight and your character casts Teleport.

I teach them all magic. But I don't teach all of them all of the magic, I assign them each different magic based off of weird ideas I have in my head as to which magic suits them the best

my favourite part of ff6 is how the endgame is literally "try not to get smurfed by the rng"

a bit like ozma but you have to actually cripple yourself for it

I always taught my main characters every single spell when I was a kid, but I haven't played the game in many years. I'm planning on starting a new play through pretty soon, so I might switch it up a bit.

It's very strange seeing you here. Not that I mind!

I think everyone gets a spell in this game but Gau and Umaro, because I never really use them. A couple of other characters are light on spells, but the majority of them are well armed.

I guess it took me 11 years to really work up the urge to start posting.

Yeah, bro! Stick around! It will be fun to bro it up on the forums again.

Don't want to veer off topic, so I'll put something I forgot. There was one time I did learn every spell for everyone, but I totally used Game Genie to do it in a matter of minutes. This was before I knew about that patch of desert in the World of Ruin with the Cactuars and whatnot.

I use to teach everyone every spell back in the day but I don't anymore. Largely cause I realize I never used magic much for half of them and partly because I felt I always got more "bang for my buck" by specializing certain characters with specific magic builds. It's kind of fun making one character a Time Mage or making Celes into a Paladin, or building Relm into a traditional Red Mage (only low to mid tier magic). It has made the game more fun in more recent years.
