Default I wish there was a western version of this game

Everyone uses guns, and finding cover is essential to winning a fight.

    What does "western" mean?

There are guns in the Tactics games, and if there is not line of sight, you cannot shoot your target.

I think this idea is poorly explained, not fleshed out, and could stand being thrown in a bin.

Like, a FFT-style game set in an Old West, Frontier setting. There hasn't been one of those, unless I'm mistaken.

But how do you incorporate a church conspiricy into that?

It's not Tactics without a church conspiracy.

I suppose it could be done, but I wonder about the diversity of job classes and the fantasy element. Another company and/or franchise might be better suited to doing a grid-based tactical squad RPG in the Wild West.

If there is a faith organization, you can have a conspiracy and crimes perpetuated by them easily enough. It just takes some writing. Maybe Catholics are luring Native Americans to missions, capturing them, and forcing them to work in silver mines.

I don't think Catholics would work in that setting. And corrupt Puritans just don't have that... quality, so to speak.

Check out the Wild ARMs series for Western-themed church and science-based conspiracies. There are even SRPG styled entries to meet all your requirements.

They see me rolling. They hating, patrolling.

I, uh...Catholics would totally work in that setting, since that was the major religious group in the west and southwest of North America: Spanish Requirement of 1513 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia & Catholic Church and slavery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I wanted to type more, but then one paragraph became four and no, that will not do. Let me just say that Ivalice at least had the same language, culture, and religion across the board, which made everything easy.

That is the main issue. Ivalice was basically just Britain, pretty homogenous in the Middle Ages
