Johnny the Homicidal Maniac!
So who read this back in the day! I just got reacquainted with this series in the past year and forgot how much I really loved it.

WELL smurf YOU, MR. BEAR!!!!
Aw hell, I didn't see this thread! I thrived on this silly comic as a gothemo teenager, and was actually introduced to it by an old member here.
One time when I was fourteen or so, I took the Director's Cut with me to a religious camp, and the leader of the camp had her daughter go through my things and luggage because they suspected (with no discernible reason) that I had brought banned objects into the camp (anything that could be plugged in was banned). The daughter found my comics, took them to her mother, who pulled me into a meeting in which she sobbed and told me that after she read my comics, the devil was with her for four hours afterward. I was ready for her to tell me she was going to have me exercised by the bishop, but to my dismay, it never came.
Anyway, this comic is great. Mr. Satan is, without a doubt, my favorite character, the Psycho Doughboys are great, and I will always be sadly disappointed that it never worked out with him and Devi. I got to meet Jhonen Vasquez a couple of years ago and had him sign my Director's Cut!

Now I want to re-read them again. Thanks a lot, Wolfie!

I've never read them, but I've always wanted to. I had a cousin that got me into Invader Zim (and practically everything else I'm into), and she would talk about this comic quite a bit. I remember she pointed out some of the easter eggs in Invader Zim that reference the comic, but they didn't mean much to me since I had never read it. Someday I'll get into it probably.

I never heard of it before now.

This series was something I read back in high school and it is a surprisingly more positive series than you think it would be considering it's about a deranged serial killer slowly losing his mind and soul so he can keep in check a physical manifestation of the ugliness of the world at bay.
Still it is the series dark humor I adore and the follow up series Squee and I am Sick are also quite exceptional.
