He'd hated because people loved the hell out of Golbez. Necron didn't hijack the plot of FFIX and say "Kuja didn't do any of this! It was ME ALL ALONG!" Zemus did do that and suddenly the badass 20 feet tall guy in armor who took Meteor to the face with no real harm and had a bitchin' pipe organ theme is now just the puppet of Moon Hitler.

Golbez doesn't even have a personality or character in FFIV because of Zemus.
