So of the games six classes, which was your least favorite?
Fighter/Knight - Too expensive and equipment dependant
Thief/Ninja - Not worth being handicapped half the game for a subpar Red Mage later
Monk/Master - No customization at all, pretty boring
Black Mage/Wizard - Offensive Magic sucks and I hate status magic
White Mage/Wizard - Items will do most of their work anyway and I hate dealing with limited MP
Red Mage - Has all the strengths and weakness of the BM, WM, and Thief rolled into one

True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
Both Black Mages and Thieves are totally useless to me, but I like how Black Mages and Wizards look, so, I've got to give it to them and say the Thief line is my least favorite.
Black Mage. Not only do I find them completely useless using the classic mechanics but they seem to get so much love.

Thief to me is just not worth it. While I will agree that the Black Mage is utterly useless in the original NES version due to all the magic bugs and how unbalanced the Red Mage's magic set is, in any port/remake that fixes the bugs, the class is actually pretty good. Thief on the other hand is garbage in all the games and the only reason to bother is to get the Ninja class which I frankly didn't feel was so wonderful it deserved me playing with a handicap for a good third of the game.

It's definitely Thief. Any sort of steal mechanic would've helped balance that out a bit, but as it stands, as people have said, Ninja's not good enough to suffer through half a game of Thief's incompetence. (Whereas, as I learned far too late in life, Master is good enough to suffer through a brief growing period with a Black Belt.)
If I had to pick one class w/o the upgrade it would be Thief, but since both are included in the package, I'm going w/ Red Mage/Wiz. Red Mage is pretty good, but the upgrade isn't all that. I'd rather have the Red Mage become the Ninja & the Thief become the Red Wizard, so I wouldn't have to bother w/ the Thief/Red Wiz combo.
Thieves are only good for running away.

Considering that there's rarely a need to run and the other classes can run well enough, the Thief is truly useless the entire game.
...
In FF1oS there isn't much reason to run, but in FF1 Original there sure is.

Thieves are valuable for their ability to flee... but unfortunately that's about all they're good for. They're outclassed (heh) by everyone else.
You know, I am so surprised this didn't turn into the usual "Monks smurfing suck!" rant that usually happens in these type of threads.

I love monks.
