I've played Crisis Core which was great, and Tactics Advance (but not finished that one) which was an excellent "one more turn" kind of game that I wouldn't mind getting back into.

I have Dirge of Cerberus, but haven't played it yet.

    >>> I played Crisis Core, but it was not great for me..
I think the simple and basic games are the best, like "Crystal Defenders" I have never been so humiliated before by a game in my life. It will be a thorn in my side until I finish it perfectly..

I had to play DoC multiple times in order to find the G... I feel the game had promise but more than a few of the concepts fall short. I like the story though.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

I have Chocobo Racing, if that counts. It has its limitations, but I really love it. It's basically one of those character racers, and it features traditional creatures from Final Fantasy games, with a Chocobo as the main character - it has a storymode which I love playing, and one of the most heart-warming ending songs ever.

There's a lot of call backs to Final Fantasy as well, mostly in music, but also in gameplay as you can use the usual magic as firepower or defense from whatever the other racers do. Haste also features as a speed-boost (it is a racing game after all). There's also bits an pieces in the storyline that makes it pretty Final Fantasy-ish as well. I'd recomend it.

There are disadvantages, such as it only goes up to two players (I think), and only two of the secret characters come with unique skills, and their own track. The Create a Racer feature is false advertising as all you do is recolor racers that you already have, also I wouldn't have minded a track based on the FFVII chocobo race since it was the first game to have a chocobo racing game (FFX didn't exist at the time).

Apart from DoC do any of the other Compilation games actually qualify as spin-offs? Crisis Core was a prequel to VII, and unless I'm mistaken The After Years and Revenant Wings are sequels.

Chocobo Racing is really fun and I love TheaterRhythm but music games are kind of my thing.

Type-0 is pretty good, Tactics franchise is really good, and Four Heroes of Light is pretty awesome.
