Right away or should I wait?
Right away, because once you get him back (in addition to it having a couple really well written scenes in the side quest), you'll be able to track the side quests that you have left to complete.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.
He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.
So because of this Let's Play, I streamed Chrono Trigger earlier. I got to the trial part and I noticed something about the jurors. I didn't feel that I should make a thread about this, so I decided to put it in here since this is the best area for Chrono Trigger discussion these days.
Alrighty so Skyblade has told me to take a break from sidequesting and go rescue Chrono.
First I bring Magus to the weird guy at the end of time.
0522.pngAttachment 54915
As I expected.
So then we go see the old man and he asks about Chrono and we tell him Chrono is dead.
Attachment 54917
Here is the song, if you want to hear it!
Attachment 54918
Then the old man talks about how Magus has become powerful and stuff.
Attachment 54919
Pretty sure this is how Pet Cemetery started.
So we leave and then he calls us back. MAKE UP YOUR MIND OLD MAN
Attachment 54920Attachment 54922
How conveniently named!
Attachment 54923
Dun dun duuuunnn
So I head back to see old dead crazy guy who put himself in that weird creature.
Attachment 54924Attachment 54925Attachment 54927
Yes, if only
Apparently he like fairs! Alright...
So I head back to 1000 AD and go to the fair (how long does this thing go on for?!)
Attachment 54928
Well I didn't have enough points, which took away some of the drama of it all. But then I fought the robot thing again with the cool music and TADA
Then I won the Chrono doll and it only cost me 30 silver points and 30 000 dollars
I head back to Chrono's house and his mom awkwardly asks how Chrono's doing and if he's staying out of trouble. I feel bad for Lucca here.
Attachment 54929
So she agrees and we head BACK to 2300 AD because they are just packing as much time travel as they can in to this half hour.
Attachment 54930Attachment 54931Attachment 54932
What is with those dolls?!!? They do everything in this game!
Those dolls should fight Lavos
Attachment 54933
Oh, well this is...
So Ikilllet him rest and head up the mountain thing place.
Oh look a fight!
Attachment 54935
So I have to fight that thing 3 times and then I realize I can 1 hit KO it with one of Madam Ayla and Lucca's joined attacks. Those dolls also turn in to trees and give me advice along the way.
I arrive at the peak and we try to use the Chrono Trigger and the pendent reacts
Attachment 54936Attachment 54937
Well that can't be good
Attachment 54939
Oh my
Then we end up back at the fight with Lavos
Attachment 54940
And I have to swap the doll out with the real Chrono before Chrono dies.
Attachment 54942
I like the lights on the tree
Attachment 54943
Lucca then proceeds to fuss at him and Chrono of course says nothing.
Attachment 54944
Chrono is rescued! Time for more sidequesting. Stay tuned next time!
Sidequest time!
This one said something about a sun stone which wasn't very specific at all, so I spanned the eras looking for places that say "sun"
I found quite a few.
Eventually I ran in to this guy:
Attachment 54948
And finally find the sun stone.
Attachment 54949Attachment 54950Attachment 54951
Well that... is oddly specific
So to Madam Ayla's time!
Attachment 54952
I head back to the place that said "Sun" when I was searching earlier.
Good Sun. Very good.
Then I head back to where I fought the boss in 2300 AD. Nothing there
Then I realize there is another sun place at the exact same spot on the map as in Madam Ayla's time so I go there.
Attachment 54953
This time it wasn't caused by my stupidity!
Attachment 54954
And there's still dust?
She said a long time ago so I head back to her time
Still there.
I head to Magus's time (child Magus)
Still there.
I head to Frog's time
NOT THERE!!!.
I head to Chrono's time
NOT THERE!!!!
Realistically, this means it could have happened anytime within that 400 year period, but since they don't allow you to travel to 700, 800, or 900 AD, or any of the years in between, this probably means it happened in 600 AD. Because game.
Eventually I find a strangely shiny house (after searching elsewhere first, of course) and enter it
Attachment 54955
I... really? Is that it? You aren't going to send me to some time in the past/future to complete some weird requirement because it turns out you only like a certain kind of fruit that only happened to grow that one time or something like that?
Oh my.
Attachment 54956
So I put the sun stone back and head back to the future.
Attachment 54957
But I just switched her out GAH
Attachment 54958
So I am auto transported to Lucca's house and she makes a weapon and her dad makes... sunglasses. Yep.
Tune in next time!
Yeah, he won't give you the sunstone unless you gave Jerky to the poor home in the middle ages. If you don't, he's a seflish jerk. If you do, they make sure to teach their kids the value of sharing and helping others, and thus he gives you the sunstone.
Seeing shion fight the Lavos spawns reminds me of an amusing observation my girlfriend made when I played through the game last year. Made this picture because of it:
So this one took some investigative work. The mission said something about ghosts and the middle ages, so I headed over to 600 AD and flew around until I figured out what the heck was going on.
I find these weird creepy kids.
Attachment 54971
Something about some ruins... this seems promising.
Attachment 54972
Attachment 54973
Very interesting
Attachment 54974
Oh, yay~ I totally forgot about you. He gives me some spirits. Not the ghost kind, though.
Attachment 54975
Oh... okay
Attachment 54976
I'm getting the feeling I need to find the carpenter.
Attachment 54977
Oh, I see.
Attachment 54978
A-HA
Attachment 54979
AND WE HAVE GHOSTS!!!
But apparently I need tools. Where do I find tools? Normally at the store, but because its this game TIME TRAVEL
I eventually find them in the future.
Attachment 54980
Oh
So I find the tools and give them to the carpenter guys and meet them at the north shrine thingy.
Attachment 54981
FIIIINE
So I do that and then have to pay them some monies to come back.
Then I find Cyrus's grave
Attachment 54982Attachment 54983Attachment 54984
D'aww happy moment.
Then something happens with the Masamune again
Attachment 54985Attachment 54986
yaaay
So then I head to the future to see my effects of my awesomeness
Attachment 54987
Then I head back to 600 AD to find that other guy's grave but then I remember that he's still alive
oops
So back to the future!
Attachment 54988Attachment 54989Attachment 54990
And for once, they finally show me where I'm going
Tune in next time as I attempt to find the rainbow whatever!
Oh, goody. The Rainbow Shell leads to such utterly epic events. I cannot wait.

Okay so I head over the the claw whatever and find a note
Attachment 55046
?
I head further in and realize the place looks rather familiar
Attachment 55047
Rather familiar indeed...
Attachment 55048
I even run in to an old friend
Attachment 55049
Which of course leads to a boss fight.
Once, that is complete, I find the rainbow shell
Attachment 55050
N...no
Attachment 55051
When switching party members doesn't work, I leave, which brings me to the castle.
Attachment 55052Attachment 55053
They agree to this and everyone is super happy. Since they mentioned for generations, I head to the future.
Also, in case you've noticed, I'm trying to make my party plot relevant characters. Like Madam Ayla in the reptite looking place and Frog because it was 600 AD. Also Magus because he's like 15 levels behind.
So now I switched to Marle and left frog because it was connected to the 600 AD story, even though I'm heading to the future and also he has connections to the royal family.
So we bring in Marle and she talks to the chancellor, who mentions her mother.
Attachment 55054Attachment 55055
Apparently the king said he was too busy with work.
Attachment 55056
Then the Chancellor indicates that some might even say the King killed her, which is a bit of a stretch imo.
Anyways, so the King is on trial for supposedly selling the Rainbow Shell, which no one even knew of until this trial.
Attachment 55057Attachment 55058Attachment 55059Attachment 55060
Anyways the trial goes on with a bunch of nonsense and Marle wants to prove his innocence.
Attachment 55061Attachment 55062
Of course it is! So I have to go looking for it and find thse two
Attachment 55063
My goodness people can hold grudges in this game. IT HAS BEEN OVER FOR 400 YEARS. LET IT GO
Attachment 55064
Ugh you guys are stupid.
So we find the shell along with a note.
Attachment 55065Attachment 55066Attachment 55067
What a nice letter.
Then we rush back in order to prove the King's innocence.
Attachment 55068
Hmm, unfortunate.
Attachment 55069
Yeah that's not something suspicious to say in court or anything.
So the guards won't let Marle in to the trial. How does she solve this?
Attachment 55070
A bit extremely.
Then we get to prove the innocence of the King with a shard from the rainbow shell
Attachment 55071Attachment 55072Attachment 55073
Another boss fight. Seriously, you guys need to learn to let stuff go.
I like how the audience is just chillin there while all of this is happening.
Attachment 55074Attachment 55075
The King and his daughter have a nice touching moment after the defeat of loser mcjerkface.
Attachment 55076Attachment 55077
Then he tells Marle about how she was so happy when her mother was on her deathbed, making Marle realize the story about him was a lie.
Attachment 55078
D'aww
Attachment 55079
Man this guy just comes out of nowhere.
Also, everyone is all super happy with Frog for everything he's done. I go back to the court place to get the shiny which unlock a chest.
Attachment 55080
He starts to introduce himself but then leaves because he's busy.
Old dude makes me some stuff using the rainbow shell and my previously acquired sun stone.
And that's all for now! Tune in next time!
Just so you know, you missed the scene where Marle tries to kill the King.
When they first fight, if you visit him with some Jerky in your inventory, you can offer it to him. It's one of his favorite foods, and Marle gives it as a peace offering. But he rages on, pointing out that Marle knows he has high cholesterol and needs to watch his diet, and that she must be trying to kill him.
I love this quest. It's just so fun. Plus, it's full of hints about the fake chancellor, such as the fact that the enemies near the Rainbow Shell are all enemies from the Church in 600 AD, or the mentions about the family grudge.

Boo I missed that scene Oh well, guess I can't get it all perfectly the first time around.
Also, what the heck happened with the reptites or whatever they're called. I find the dragon thing and the cave billions of years later and then it goes off to Marle's story and then it's just... that's it. Nothing more about the reptites just chillin in the cave after billions of years.
EDIT:
Also, if you want to head over to the last page of my attempted drawings thread, I drew Madam Ayla
Okay so the last sidequest says something about Zeal, so I head to 12000 BC or whenever it is and find what used to be the underwater place just floatin around.
I already have Magus in my party so I just add Madam Ayla and Freddy because they are my favorites.
Then I find the loony Queen Zeal
Attachment 55085
*sigh*
Attachment 55086
Only 1400 years? Well then!
Then she makes me fight this ugly thing
Attachment 55087
Really, what's wrong with having attractive bosses once in a while?
And guess what? After ridiculous amounts of time spent in this area, I get to fight that thing 2 more times!
Attachment 55088Attachment 55089
Each time as annoying as the last. With much dungeon in between. Finally I arrive to this:
Attachment 55090
Well that can't be good
Attachment 55091
It's another not Lavos Lavos boss fight!
After that fight I find this creepy place.
Attachment 55092
That's... that's awkward. Sure enough there are floating copies of my characters all over the place.
Attachment 55093
I have no idea what you're talking about.
Attachment 55094
Apparently the Mammon Machine eats.
Attachment 55095
So I fight it and I win.
SO MANY BOSS FIGHTS
But it doesn't end there. Oh no.
Attachment 55096
You, LADY, have some serious issues.
Magus basically tells her that, which she doesn't take well
Attachment 55097
And that leads to another boss fight.
Attachment 55098
Why... what is this? She just turned herself in to floating gloves and part of a face. That's impressive in its own way.
Attachment 55099
Ugh, it just never ends with this lady.
Attachment 55100
Oh my
Attachment 55101
OH MY
Attachment 55102
So... so apparently I'm fighting Lavos?
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A SIDEQUEST
He seems to imitate a lot of the previous bosses I fought. Eventually I defeat him.
Attachment 55103
AYLA STRONG
Attachment 55104
BE WARY
Attachment 55105
ENTER AND DESTROY THE CORE
THE BATTLE CRIES OF MY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HEARD
