Let's Play Chrono Trigger

Okay so I've seriously never played this game and I've heard a lot about it. So I got myself the DS version, and decided to do a Let's Play!

I was told that I should mention that I'm going in to this knowing nothing about the game. This is the only RPG I'm playing where I literally know nothing about the game. Nothing about characters, locations, story, nothing at all. So don't spoil it, or something!

*Note, I used a max monies and exp x4 code so that I can get this Let's Play done more quickly without having to spend a ton of time grinding and such.

Okay, so let's begin.

Pretty standard naming. The game is called Chrono Trigger and the guy is called Chrono. Question, is Chrono Trigger related to Chrono Cross?

So I'm sleeping and my mom decides to wake me up. Moms, amirite?

TURNS OUT THE ANSWER IS NO, BUT THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE THERE'S ONE RACING AROUND THE PLACE WITH ALL OF THE STANDS AND TENTS AND THINGS.

I first go to Lucca's house, but she isn't there. Then I head to the place with the stuff going on. I walk around a bit and then this happens

How can she not find it? It's giant and it sparkles. So I come to the rescue and get her her pendant back and she thanks me.

So we walk around talking to people.

Oh, okay. Then she stands there and I try and walk away and she scolds me. I do like how you can walk while talking to people in this game. So I can show them how invested I am in the conversation.

Eventually I try to progress with the game but I can't. Turns out I needed to talk to some random NPC. Thanks.

Afterwards, the girl who is supposedly a tomboy but has done nothing but skip, frollick, giggle, and ask for candy decided she wants to mosey over and give it a try. They also make a huge deal about how pretty she is. I get it Chrono Trigger. I could stand to lose some weight. Stahp.

Apparently I volunteered to go after her bravely when I was seriously just trying to examine her pendant in case it was a key item or something. This turned in to me going after her in that weird blue hole.

So I end up in some forest thing and get attacked by these Goblin looking things.

Then I find these guys playing a fun game of soccer. I try to join in, but they just attack me . Even the green thing, which I just saved from being kicked around. Ungrateful.

So I seem to be in some weird alternate dimension world of the one I was in originally. The ? in the bottom corner expresses my feelings on the matter.

I find a Church looking thing.

I clear the forest and head to the castle where I am immediately verbally assaulted.

Obviously it's you.. Confession, when people were calling her Lenne, I actually didn't notice that wasn't her real name. I thought her name was Lenne until I spoke to her and it said Marle. Oops.

We get to talking and then this happens

Then I of course have to go rescue her so that history will set itself straight. Apparently because Marle came and they thought she was Lenne, they gave up the search for Lenne.

So I go off on my way to rescue her.

My first stop is creepy cannibal Church because.... because it's creepy cannibal Church.

Okay, so not exactly cannibals like I was hoping. Just monsters. I was really hoping for a Church full of nuns that just eats people and worships some demon God who turns the place in to something a la Silent Hill. BUT WHATEVER

Then I run in to a frog and Lucca expresses her distaste for Frogs, so he saves some of his dignity and walks away to rescue Lenne (the wrong way, I might add). But Lucca tells him to hold up.

Then I am to find the secret entrance, so of course the first thing I try is the piano. And I am correct!

So I found my first save point. Considering it says Middle Ages, I'm guessing I'll be traveling back and forth between the two eras a lot. Or other eras? Am I going to be a time traveling hero?

I look for the exit which involves fights, pianos, skulls, and notes on the wall.

Lucca then suggests we head home. Sure, because I know how to do that. Lucca's sprite is adorable, by the way.

You haven't run into, but potentially heard of my favorite character when I was younger. Now? I don't really have a favorite. I like them all! While the characters to have distinct personalities, I find that is Chrono Trigger goes on, it becomes more about the story as a whole instead of a character driven story. Most of the cast have their arcs, but they don't overshadow the main storyline.

My favorite party members are Chrono, Marle, and Frog. Lucca is actually in fifth place, but this is a very close race between everyone. I like the cast a lot.

Edit: I have a favorite character or two, but I would rather not say who is what because you seem to be having snarky fun and implying you have hit the cash-money already would be depressing. Plus, you totally have not met my favorite character, and he is better than cash-money.

I'm still getting used to this game, where going along a set of buildings will open up to different houses and whatnot. It's different.

I am found not guilty! Does this mean I get an apology and to go home in peace? No, of course not. I'm sentenced 3 days solitary confinement for helping the Princess run off. I hate this country.

I was planning to overthrow the Kingdom now. You know that person in your life who has a story they just latch on to and everytime they tell it it gets more and more exaggerated to the point it isn't even the same story anymore? That's the chancellor.

Then, apparently, I am to be executed in 3 days. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? What does this guy even have against me?

Yeah, neither did I. Sadly, the Warden just goes along with the Chancellor even though he could totally take him in a fight.

And so I am put in solitary confinement.

When I was younger that whole trial bit irritated me. I didn't do everything perfectly my first time, but I was found not guilty. It's funnier looking back on that memory now because I accepted the silent protagonist angle so much (not counting OLD school stuff like Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger was the first RPG I played with a silent Protagonist) that I wasn't even thinking something like, "How come Crono doesn't defend himself?!" I didn't even consider it a possibility! The dude just doesn't talk, and that's that!
