Thread: Squall Leonhart: Nice Guy

    Default Squall Leonhart: Nice Guy

Squall is often portrayed as a super-douchebag, to use the vernacular. I think most people judge him by the scene with Quistis at the secret area.

However on my latest playthrough of VIII, I noticed a surprising amount of dialogue options. You didn't really get that much with Cloud or Zidane but with Squall you have a decent amount of options on what he says. Stuff like at the TV Station you can choose to be extra mean to Rinoa and continue on or apologize, or if you send Rinoa to the Missile Base and reunite with her at FH, you can choose to say "I missed you too."

Being a sentimental fool who does in fact like Rinoa, I was always sweet to her and didn't choose the "Why?" option when she said she missed Squall.

Anybody else ever take notice of the relatively abundant dialogue options for our protagonist? It's a nice little feature.

I like Squall and I still feel he is one of the best written characters in the numbered series. Yeah I notice he gets a lot of dialogue options and I find it amusing as well how his inner monologue starts to disappear as the story progresses and he grows as a character.

Yeah, I've always thought this. He's a nice enough guy if you choose the right options.

Squall undergoes quite the journey. It's rough to stereotype him as one or the other.

They see me rolling. They hating, patrolling.

Squall just wants to push everybody away and be left alone. Squall isn't really any stereotype, just a damaged man by childhood trauma, and wants to be alone.

Squall acts like a douche, so people won't leave him, like Ellone left him when he was a child.

Squall is trying to protect himself from any pain, that he suffered through as a young boy.

The abundant of dialog options were one of my favorite parts about the game, really. I like Selphie's reaction when you're nice to her at Trabia.

I always tried to be nice to everyone! Gave me a warm feeling inside.

Actually, I was never nice to Zell. But that was just funny.

He is a late bloomer undergoing puberty. It's understandable.
