Carbuncle
Eiko says that the eidolon sealed at the Iifa Tree was a failed summon because it was so strong. That eidolon is Carbuncle. I can't help but feel that maybe the old summoners were kind of weaksauce.
Alternatively, Carbuncle is the cutest damn thing in this whole game.

I love Carbuncle in general throughout the series. He's pretty darn cute, but I think he was cutest in FFVIII personally.

Oh, der. Leviathan was the eidolon that was imprisoned and Carbuncle was the one sealing it in.
Okay I thought I was going crazy. I remembered the statue looking like Leviathan but then I was thinking it could have just been for looks or something, I dunno.

I was confused for a minute, because I didn't think Carbuncle was the one sealed, but aha, we have unravelled the mystery.
