I played this game first, so it bears the distinction of forming my opinions about the series to a large degree.
How about you? Was this your first Final Fantasy, as oxymoronic (or perhaps just plain moronic) as that statement is?

It was the first one I played, but not the first one I completed.
Not even close. Never having an SNES growing up, I had to skip IV and VI, and only got VII quite a while after it came out. I played them I, VII, VIII, V, VI, IX, IV...something like that.
Indeed, it was among the first video games I'd played, and my very first RPG.
It was the second one I played. I played the original Final Fantasy when it was released, and then this one a couple of years later since it was the second one to be released in the US. This was the first one I beat, however.
It was my second FF but it was the first FF I actually owned and beat.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
Not at all, no! It wasn't released in Europe until 2002 and so I'd already beaten VII-X, and when it came to anthology I have to confess I played through V first.
Technically, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was my first FF game that I played and beat, but for the main series, this was actually my first, yes. At least the first that I knew was a Final Fantasy game while playing it. I had, before, dabbled with the NES ROM of Final Fantasy III, but had no idea that it was a Final Fantasy game or even what Final Fantasy was. IV was the first game in the main series I played and ironically enough, the version I played first was a rom of the Final Fantasy II US version.
I loved it. Had no idea the translation was bad or that the game was already more than ten years old, I thought it looked amazing. I was still new to the whole gaming and emulating scene back in the early 2000s. x)
