Growing up our parents have a profound affect on us. Some of that is also the music they listen to is often some of the first music we get to experience, so are there any bands or performers your parents rocked out to that you came to love as well?

True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
There are a few, but probably Dire Straits. It was one of my dad's favourites and listening to them just reminds me of him and those days spent relaxing, reading, eating BBQ and whatnot. There are plenty of bands I learnt to love through my dad and those good old days though.
My parents listened to 80s music which means they had flawless taste and as such I do as well![]()
Jean michel jarre, pink floyd. trout, my dad even listened to vangelis. What a total nerd.
I didn't start liking pink floyd until i grew up, though. Like 25 years plus.

They just really like classical musicThough my mother was a big Beatles fan in her youth and even saw them live in a small venue before they were overly famous so I'll go with them.
Dad likes 70's rock mostly, that definitely had an influence on me growing up. Mum used to like country music but as she got older became more and more into classical music, I recently introduced her to the two Distant Worlds albums and she loves them, so I ended up influencing her.
If last.fm plays are anything to go by, then, from most listened to least listened:
- Genesis (3,140)
- Frank Zappa (2,826)
- King Crimson (2,375)
- The Beatles (2,343)
- Yes (1,843)
I'm probably a bigger Genesis, Zappa or Crimson fan than they ever were though, since I like periods of their recordings my parents have no interest in.
I don't remember any bands my dad listened to. He listened to a lot of showtunes and a lot of opera. I'll say Andrea Bocelli.
My dad's favorite artist was Billy Joel.
I'd put Billy Joel in my top 5 favorite artists/bands, so I'll go with that.![]()
My dad really loves Earth Wind and Fire. He loved them so much so that he decided to become a drummer and then joined a band when he was 17. They were an Earth Wind and Fire cover band. My mother doesn't really like bands. She just likes solo artists, namely Beyonce. Growing up I'd listen to R&B, Hip Hop, and Jazz as this is what my parents listened to. Now I've elevated that with other genres, and genre hybrids.
My Mom loves the Beatles, so I got that from her.
Hank Williams Jr. ... Red Sovine.
My mom was big into Elvis, The Beatles, oldies music in general. ... She'd turn that trout up hard in the car and belt every song that came on the Radisson .. With my friends in the car.
SO EMBARRASSING.
For some reason, I can't remember very well what my mother listened to. I think perhaps Simon and Garfunkel, and perhaps also Enya, and then a bunch of local artists.
