Are the games related or is it like the Final Fantasy series?
Some of the earlier ones are related in that they take place in the same world and there are references to places and historical people but they aren't direct sequels or anything like that.
Proud to be the Unofficial Secret Illegal Enforcer of Eyes on Final Fantasy!

Pretty much what Del said. I haven't played the first three, but they're apparently connected by the lineage of a central character. Dragon Quest IV-VI are loosely connected by the theme of a sky castle and dragon god, but the stories and settings are for the most part unrelated.
I hope you're considering jumping in to the series shion!!!
I own and have only ever played VIII. It is the only one that has been or ever will be of any interest to me... unless they release another one exactly like it. lol
Jack: How do you know?
Will: It's more of a feeling really.
Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?
Will: No.
If Demolition Man were remade today
Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
Huxley: NO!
Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
Spartan: But Huxley.
Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.
By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.
They are like Final Fantasy in that regard.
Also 5 is the best one, except 4 which is also the best one. They are both the best one.
I love all of them, though, and yearn for more real main games in the series.
Pretty much what Bolivar and Del have said. The first three games are directly connected and deal with the story or Loto/Roto and his descendants. IV through VI are also loosely connected though it was not necessarily intentional, they all share the same mythology of the Sky Dragon and Sky Castle along with all three games sharing the same Hero armor set. Amusingly enough, if you were to view them chronologically they match up how the Loto Arc is done as well with the sixth entry being a prequel to the fourth and fifth games.
VII- X are completely unconnected. Though IX does have some cool challenge dungeons that allow you to fight all of the series previous bosses and get armor and gear that allow you to dress your character up like characters from previous games.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
Yeah, they are just another independent series that doesn't get enough love![]()
