Yeah, I wish there was some way to not have to pay so much. Sadly, there appears to be none for such a law-abiding individual as myself.
That sounds likely. Perhaps multiple expansions on S3 made the simulation annoyingly large, and that's what the so-called "smartsim" tech might be trying to address. Simplify simulation of things that are unlikely to affect your current house or whatever, cause the actual graphics part of S3 isn't very intensive.

can you hear me in the void?
What slows the game down the most is expansions definitely. Even weaker computers can play The Sims 3 without much trouble if the settings are medium to low. It is the expansions that seriously weigh the game out.
If my bf gets a PC, I'll definitely be getting this. It really is only fun when you can mod it the mayhem of your liking.
I disagree. I never modded my game and keep finding new ways to entertain myself by having clear ideas for families, stories and challenges. Probably the most fulfilling so far is the random wish challenge, where I randomly generate a sin and it do things that fulfill their basic needs and wishes. It really makes you discover whole new ways to play because you're forced to step out of your comfort zone.
I like modding, but I do like imposing myself challenges.
I did a homeless challenge once. I had one sim, who technically has a home, but it's actually an empty plot of land. That sim then has to use whatever community lots have on offer, to sleep, eat, learn skills, etc, enough so that the sim can actually earn money and build a home.
