About british humour, I have watched marathons of Benny Hill and Mr Bean those shows were something that always amused me but they never made me laugh.. On the other hand The Three Stooges shows made laugh like hell.. So I decided that everything that amused me but it didnt make me laugh would be classified as "british humour"..

His dichotomy of British/American comedy reminds me of 30 Rock & the difference between the characters of Liz Lemon & Jack Donaghy.
That's where I was going. Liz is more stylized the "British Comedian" & Jack the "American Comedian".
I think a lot of current American comedy is influenced by British comedy, most notably Monty Python, but also the original The Office (I wish they'd release that w/ subtitles ).
