    Devore Jojishi (Sargatanas)

Default Old Ben Kenobi was a lazy man

For like 18yrs, or however old Luke is at the start of the film, Kenobi did nothing but watch Luke grow up when he could have been secretly training him as a Jedi.

Imagine how powerful Luke would have been when he first fought Vader if he had been trained his whole life rather than just a couple of days. But maybe this is just another one of those things were the prequels have ruined the originals.

But like...didn't he not train him so that Vader wouldn't be aware of him? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Yeah, what Jinx said. Luke didn't have much of a Force presence before he starting learning the ways of the Jedi. Also, how was Ben ever going to have that conversation with Luke?

Luke: "So how did you REALLY know my dad?"
Ben: "Oh, I taught him just like I'm teaching you. Then he turned to the Dark Side so I WATCHED HIM BURN TO DEATH BESIDE A RIVER OF MOLTEN ROCK. Also I cut off his legs and one of his arms. 'Cept he wasn't really did. Also I saw your mom's vajayjay."

    Signature by rubah. I think.

I don't think anybody really considered Luke a viable solution to the issues at any point up until he started accidentally saving the galaxy.

Yeah, they had hunted down jedis, a hot headed kid wouldn't know how to control his force usage and would have probably got himself killed.

Well he already trained one Skywalker into ruling the Galaxy I think maybe he was afraid of Luke falling to the darkside like his Father if he trained him.

Did everyone miss the part where Obi-Wan took Luke to live a peaceful life with his aunt and uncle? If his (initial) plan was to train him to fight the Empire then why did the two most powerful remaining Jedi exile themselves?

Vader's main task was to hunt down and destroy the remaining Jedi. If any rumors were to get out that the old dude on Tatooine was teaching his much younger boy toy how to move trout with his mind, Vader'd be all over that like a wampa on a tauntaun steak.

Qui-Gon, Yoda, and Obi-Wan had all kind of banked on become Force Ghosts to save the galaxy whenever they could. Peaceful life for the twins was probably the best they could hope for. Totally spot on from G13 as you would expect.

But then there's that whole thing of not being able to train Anakin because he was too old. If Anakin was too old at the age of like 10, then surely Luke was far too old to be trained. So it would have made sense to train him in secret when he was young.

Also, didn't the storm troopers kill Lukes aunt and uncle because of the droids, not because they thought he was a potential Jedi. So if he really wanted to let Luke live a peaceful life then he could have just moved him somewhere else and left him while he goes to save Leia.

While I write this I should say that Obi, young and old, is one of my favourite characters.

Pickings have been a bit slim since that whole Jedi purge thing.

His intention was never to train Luke. I guess once Luke's aunt and uncle were dead he felt bad for him and thought better late than never? Yeah, technically he really should of left Luke to continue living a peaceful life but then none of the movies would ever have happened!

I don't know about you, but I'd much rather watch a trilogy that takes an in depth look at the life and struggles of a humble moisture farmer.

It's not an easy job. Tatooine is more than a simple desert. Finding moisture there is almost entirely the same as pulling blood from a stone.
