My Final Fantasy Marathon
A while back I decided to marathon the Final Fantasy games from 1-9 in honor of 10's HD Remaster. I didn't make it on time for the release, but I'm stuck in the middle of 9 right now. I've just left Lindblum for Gizamaluke's Grotto, and I've noticed something.
They're all starting to seem a bit same-y to me. Homogeneity, I believe is the word. You start out with little or nothing to your name, at a low level, and are tasked with repeatedly beating up the guys on the other side of the screen, taking their money and buying weapons to go back and beat up some more guys at the other side of the screen, take their money (which is imaginary money, btw), and use it to buy more (imaginary) weapons and armor and stuff, until you finally go to a place where it doesn't matter how much money you have, because you have to find all the best (imaginary) weapons and armor to kill the big imaginary bad guy who has more HP than the other bad guys.
Maybe it's just some kind of weird psychological effect, likening to something like highway hypnosis (where you're driving in a car endlessly and start to doze off despite having enough sleep). I wonder what we'd call it..."Repetitive JRPG Syndrome" sounds too generic.
I need to buy a better controller so I can play Street Fighter again.
Ever get this feeling whilst playing?
