Do you ever create a separate save file to always use the temporary characters?

I remember making a second save file in FFVIII during the Dollet mission. That way, I can play as Seifer whenever I want. Same with the Laguna flashbacks.

I also did the same thing in FFVII during the Nibelheim flashback so I could use Sephiroth.
