Default How much do you want to know

Before you start playing a game?

I generally want to know what type of game it is (RPG) and how many characters there are. If I can, I'll also look for playable female characters because I guess I identify with them more and I enjoy playing female characters more.

Sometimes I'll try and see what the gameplay is like, but its not as necessary as the other two things.

Do you like to know a lot before you play a game or do you like to go in as blindly as possible?

I want to know that it is made by a developer I trust or has a setting or premise that is interesting to me, and nothing else.

I pretty much always go by direct recommendation of someone I know/whose taste I trust, and then the only thing that interests me is the reason why they recommended it to me. Be it because it's so much fun, because it has a great storyline, because it has a rich world, whatever.

Very little. I want to know a quick outline of the story and object of the game. I also kindof want to see a little bit of the graphics/camerawork to know if it will make me sick or not.

Games I like knowing basic premise, gameplay style, and the developer beforehand. I like going in as blind as possible with the actual story though. I like experiencing stories where everything is a surprise.

I first look at the genre of the game. Shooters, racing, fighting, not really my thing. The game world and style is the next thing I look at. Publisher is also important. Besides that, if I'm really interested in a game I might buy it even without much regard to everything else. I usually enjoy the games I play, and this approach has worked well for me.

I generally want to know the concept and gameplay, in fact I don't mind having gameplay spoiled cause these are video games we're talking about. For something like an RPG, I want to know the concept and maybe see who the first couple of party members might be.

I like to know just enough to tell whether or not it'll be something I'd like. I knew nothing of Persona 4 except that it would most likely be similar to Persona 3, and it was a really fun ride (SPOILER)what why are we going inside of a television portal i thought yosuke had to pee

I greatly prefer having a detailed understanding of mechanics before I go into games -- for instance, I like knowing how much damage weapons do in Mega Man games and what special utility they offer, what weapons and gear in RPGs have special elemental and status properties (and if I should even bother with said properties), what skills at the bottom of various tech trees do, stuff like that. I don't usually care to read ahead about characters and story elements -- I'll find that out on my own -- but I like knowing what to seek out and build towards.

Just enough to know whether or not I'd want to play it.

Developer, composer, combat mechanics, linearity, major complaints/concerns/bugs, and most importantly: whether or not it's fun!

There's so much variety these days accessible on so many platforms. I enjoy how so many games today surprise me, so I purchase a lot of titles knowing very little, other than someone I trust is hyping it.

I follow the news so am usually aware of whats going on and will make a point of following games I am interested in. But will make an effort to avoid any story material whenever possible. Lead characters and the general premise of the game is okay, but other than that, i prefer going in blind, so-to-speak.

But it seems that recently game companies what to tell you everything before a game is even released...
