Let's Play Super Mario RPG!

I have never played this game but sharky loves it and all of Pike's threads have inspired me to give it a try!

Before we start, I have hardly ever used the zsnes emulator and I'm not super familiar with controls and stuff I haven't been able to figure out how to open the menu in game. I tried all of the buttons I know of but its not working. Anyways, let's get started!







I wasn't sure if this is one of those games when they ask for your name but really its the hero's name. I'm glad it isn't!



So here is Princess Peach/Toadstool! Apparently Toadstool and Peach and Daisy have some weird intertangled naming stuff going on but the Mario wiki says she's Peach and she looks like Peach so I'm calling her Peach

Bowser kidnapped the Princess. Such a shame



Oh am I rescuing her? Is that what's going on?



Is Yoshi in this game?



So Bowser takes her to his ominous castle of ominousness where he can apparently control the weather to suit the atmosphere he is trying to create (ominousness is an actual word, I just found out)



And Mario is right behind them. He sure can run

So I get in to some battles in the castle and it made me chuckle



So cute



Oh no the bridge fell! That's some shoddy construction :/. You think with all of the money Bowser obviously spends (he owns his own castle with a lava pit) he could maybe hire some better builders.

So eventually I find Peachstool dangling from the ceiling



And Mario super jumps up to save her



And I get in to a fight with Bowser, which wasn't unexpected, and then Peachstool decides to give me instructions



Why don't you just fight him then

So I start attacking the chain because I was totally planning to do that before she said anything >.>



It wasn't me, it was Peachstool



Yep, he said that



Poor Bowser. Can't a man/turtle/monster thing just kidnap Princesses in peace?





So he starts throwing hammers at my chain and sure enough I go tumbling down



Yeah sorry about that . That must be frustrating



!!!!

But Mario once again demonstrates his superhuman jumping skills and hightails it out of there



Poor Bowser



Yes?

But something happens and there is shaking and falling and other such action packed events



Oh what's this?



This is the game I'm playing, in case anyone isn't caught up yet

So I go launching away and land in what appears to be Mario's house, on his coat hanger

Small update!

So I head over to Bowser castle to find

So then he destroys the bridge and I can't get to Bowser's castle anymore. Oh well!

So apparently Mario is a mute because he heads back and tells Toad what's happening via charades. He's not very good at it either



Okay. So we head out and I get some useful tutorials



And then I save Toad from a Goomba (that's what they're called, right?)



Why don't we just.... travel together? ......no?

So I do some fights and I gotta tell ya, I am awful at this game :/

So then I meet some guys who say they don't like my face and neither do their hammers. They use an attack called.... hammer time

So of course I take it because... video game.

Then I arrive in the candy mushroom Kingdom and buy some things and rest.

I was never that good at getting Mario to land multiple jumps on the enemies.

Bowser has never been good at interior bridges over lava. It was his demise through most of the first Super Mario game.

Oh... did you not hear? Well this is awkward. Mario then starts playing charades again and I've got to say, his impressions are excellent



I had no idea he could shapeshift



I don't know why anyone is surprised by this

The Chancellor also stops Mario a good number of times before he leaves and Mario apparently doesn't take well to that, falling over, rolling down stairs, and smashing in to doors.

So I leave to find an amusing scene of some... cheeseball... looking thing chasing a purple reptile around and yelling at him



You should report it to the police

This isn't what he does of course, but he does begin to cry, which makes it rain. I approach him and he stops crying, mostly because he forgot why he was crying

Then he remembers!



You could probably just talk to your grandpa about it. I doubt he would want you chasing after a possibly dangerous and violent criminal



Or we could just do that, sure



A frog? Are you serious? He looks nothing like a frog!!!



That's what I said. But yay I have a new character !!!



No. Then we ask this toad mushroom person why he didn't stop him







It's one thing to steal but it is entirely another to name call

And so we begin our persuit of the dastardly purple crocodile

Ah, they're really easy to miss when you first play. The next time you play, make sure to ride on top of Toad's head, until you get to the door of the throne room. before he enters, jump on the ledge & a hidden box will appear w/ a frog coin.

There are 39 hidden boxes in the game w/ various items. Unfortunately, you can only get that one on the first try. If you want, you can use a hidden box FAQ, or try to find them on your own.

It's your first playthrough, so don't feel bad about it.

So if you recall, I was chasing that purple crocodile guy



THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE WRONG

Actually not, because somehow Mario has started sucking at jumping. I can't tell you how frustrating these stupid jumps were and at one point I messed up so many times that I got rid of all of the monsters on the field and then I GOT A STUPID STAR IN THE TREASURE CHEST I WORKED SO HARD TO GET

Anyways



I think Croco has trouble with distance measurements

Again with the verbal abuse



At that rate I'm pretty sure I can just earn enough money to refund the coin he stole

So after annoyingly chasing him down 1292093483974930192 times



This leads to a very difficualt boss fight in which I use up almost all of my items

Then frogmallow threatens him like he actually did anything during the fight



Ugh just go away forever





Oh good



Oh and I'm a thief now, alright. Unless I'm turning this in to the police so he can claim it

Luckily they give me a sping loaded jump pad to help me head back

And that's all for today! I would play longer but its 1 am and those stupid jumps took me forever

So I head back to the Mushroom Kingdom to find it being terrorized by guys who look like that short red guy with the mask in Mario Tennis

So I head over to the castle to find it even more infested after I buy some items and get some things and such

So I head over to Peachstool's room and find everyone huddled up in there except for



Guess I have to go rescue him

I don't actually think this property belongs to you. If you could just waltz in and claim a home then we would have a house by now.

These guys have an addiction

Anyways after a long fight, Mack and his goons are defeated, except for two of them, and I get a star!



Yay me



This doesn't sound good

Also, those two remind me of Zorn and Thorn.



So the Chancellor is rescued thanks to Mario!



Okay, let's leave it up to some other hero

Apparently his grandpa knows EVERYTHING

Our heroes also return a wallet!
