What game am I thinking of??

There is an RPG that haunts my dreams. I played when I was little but I couldn't figure it out and didn't get far.

It was, I'm pretty sure, for the PS2. I seem to remember some weird world map system, which is the thing I couldn't figure out? Basically it wasn't like, leave town, walk around type of deal but more like Suikoden III where you exit on to a map and select a destination, although it wasn't the same as in the Suikoden III game.

The art style was kind of catroony if I remember correctly. And I'm thinking the cover had little rectangles with the characters eyes lined up on the side, one under the other

Sorry this isn't a lot to go off of, but I've been wondering about this game for a while now and I just can't think of anything else

Unlimited Saga was also my guess, as I had a very similar experience with the game.

That's the first game I thought of too when you described it. Definitely a "dream haunter"...

The haunt my dreams is a joke xD. I just couldn't play it when I was little because my mind was very simple and new to PRG's. Is it worth taking a look at again?

It's basically a board game with almost everything determined by slot reels.

There are some redeeming features to the game if you don't mind the board game / slot reel setup: it's generally very pretty, there is a story (unlike most other board games), I seem to recall a combo system adding some depth to the combat, and it has a good soundtrack.

I bought it and watched a X-2 video that came with it. I think it was just the opening movie to X-2 that I watched. I remember being really hyped after watching that video (just for how good the graphics looked). Then I got into Unlimited Saga and hated every minute I played of it for the very short amount of time I played. Voices were bad. The game didn't really look too good. I couldn't figure out how to play really. I was seeing it for only $10 or less REALLY soon after I bought it too. I think it's pretty universally hated, but I don't know for sure.

Hmm I thought I was just bad at it because I was young, but apparently its just a difficult game to play
