    Default Tactics Ogre Appreciation Thread!

    I feel like a lot of people here would really appreciate Tactics Ogre. It helps that Let Us Cling Together is basically another Final Fantasy Tactics game. So far I've not beaten any games in the series, but I'm curious how you guys feel about the Tactics Ogre games. (And the Ogre Battle games, which they share some characters with!)

    I'm pretty close to the end of Let Us Cling Together, but my team is all kinds of horrible. I need to re-work them like crazy.

    Edit: Worth noting is that the original version of Tactics Ogre came out on the SNES, and there's a romhack out there which takes the PS1 version's English script and puts it in the SNES version's rom. I prefer the PSP version by a lot, but if you'd like to try it out, it's there. ^_^

    I've never paid much attention to the Tactics Ogre series, but Ogre Battle gets ALL of my love. I was super happy when NIS included a variation of the OB battle system in Soul Nomad.

    I tried Ogre Battle: Person of Lordly Caliber but never got very far. It's not that I didn't enjoy it, of course! I just got to a point where I was obsessing over making sure that each town I liberated matched the moral alignment of my characters and it got overwhelming.

    I just tried to have a super goody-goody unit liberate everything. I hope matching alignment didn't matter . . . <_< ;

    Tactics Ogre: LoCT is one of the better SRPGs I've played. But I wouldn't call it insanely good. The main prop I can give it is the ridiculous amount of post game content it has if you want to get into it.

    Some people consider the branching storylines to be a huge asset, but I feel they robed the story of it's potency. Each storyline was individually quite good, but as I know none of them are definitive it made it virtually impossible for me to get invested in what was going on. (Though they alleviated one of my main concerns with branching storylines in allowing you to go back and play different ones in the post game)

    Let Us Cling Together is awesome. The PSP version is one of, if not the best, attempts at a remake of a classic I've ever seen. It's cool to see how this game evolved into FFT and note the similarities and differences. I still think FFT is a more polished, overall more enjoyable game but TO was pretty great too.

    I still get a nervous twitch when EoFFers write things like "I wish there was an FFT2" when it really is this game, even if it's the predecessor.

    It's up there with Shining Force II for my favorite SRPG of all time.

    Ogre Battle is awesome but I never beat it and don't think I could. The game system is a mess, albeit a wonderfully intriguing mess.

    I read that you need for it to match to get the best ending in the game. I kinda just wanted to be as brutal as possible and have the narrative pretend I was entirely virtuous.

    FFT is FFT2. Or TO can be FFT0.

    I'm close to the end of the game now, I think. Getting a certain character caught up with everyone level-wise took a while, but thankfully I managed to update all of my character's skills and equipment along the way. (Discovering that you could set every character on your side to being AI controlled helped grinding a lot. )

    I'm excited to get to the end, but I also really want to see how the different choices play out.
