I think the name Bartz suits him better.
Apparently, I have been declared banished.
In my most recently created and unfinished playthrough, I named him "Rider." It seemed more fitting than either.
Between the two, I go with Bartz.
Last time I played I compromised and went with Batz.
He's referred to as "Bats" by the Grandfather in FF:LotC, but the translation of a mid-90's anime is hardly something to cite as evidence.
I went with Bartz, myself.
Bartz Simpsonz.
Butz is lulz, but Bartz is how his name should be.
A lot of times, though, I'll just name him after myself or whatever my naming theme is for that run.
When something smells, it's usually the Butz
