Herc and Xena started a little before Buffy and I believe they even continued on into the first few seasons of Buffy too. At least Xena did.

In hindsight it seems like a lot of people have overlooked Hercules and Xena because of this. There's also Charmed but man that is supposed to be bad. But maybe only later on? I haven't watched Charmed at all. Cole looks hot.

Anyway, I grew up with Hercules and Xena, watching more of the former than the latter because I was a little kid. i liked how silly Hercules was and I had no appreciation for Xena's more mature atmosphere. (or her body)

The tragic thing is that Hercules and Xena are kinda remembered in a bad light by a lot of people in spite of how immensely popular they were at the time. Not a completely bad light - the makers of God of War knew they had to get Kevin Sorbo to voice their version of Hercules so that says something. But it just seems like a lot of people think of Herc and Xena as "those cheesefests I watch if I want to kill an hour." For more serious drama or characters, they're gonna watcH Buffy or Angel.

Is it because of writing quality? Setting? The ridiculously bad CGI? Who knows. But Hercules and Xena remain near and dear to my heart even to this day. And while Willow and Tara were the first blatant lesbian couple, I thinK Xena's fanbase speaks for itself in showing how obvious it was that Xena and Gabrielle were romantically involved. If nothing else, the LBGT crowd still recognizes how legimately great Xena was.

To conclude on 90s Fantasy shows - we cannot forget Highlander the TV Series! Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod would nail Buffy, Faith, Willow, Tara, Vamp Willow, Cordellia, Fred, Illyria, Glory, Harmony, Xena, Gabrielle, Callisto, Aphrodite, the three Charmed girls and any other piece of tail on the shows.
