    Default Help! Mac not working.

    Hi all,

    So I have an apple mac laptop. Iv had it charging since yesterday but nothing is helping... I try to turn it on- the apple sign comes up on the white screen, a bar comes up to say it's getting ready... And then it just switches itself off... HELP!!!!

    Yeah, i'll just have to take it in :-( I just dont want to pay :-(

    when you power it on, hold the control button down (do this before the apple pops up) it should open the apple diagnostics tool for you.

    Tried that but it didnt work. This come up and the bar gets half way then shuts down!

    It might have overheated when you we letting it charge for that long. The hard drives in the Macs are purposely frail when you first get them. I hope you got insurance because it seems you'll have to repair your hard drive for a better one that should have been put in to begin with.

    Worst case scenario following Shiny's hypothesis is that you go out and buy your own harddrive and download the version of OSX that you want onto a flash drive and do a fresh install of OS.

    What year and how old is it? There was a well known bug in the Mid 2011 MacBook Pro's that freeze up after a firmware update.

    I'd just take it to the Genius Bar. Expensive, if out of warranty, but they know their own stuff.
    I need to get a real signature. Please let me know if you're into this sort of this and willing to help for the price of say, on the house.
