No, this isn't for me. I watch enough movies. This is actually for my boyfriend who to my surprise has not seen a majority of movies that aren't present (like within the past five years). I'm not really the best at times at picking movies for other people because I like and even love so many, so if you can recommend me some movies for him -- anything older than 2008 I'd be much obliged.

Already on my list of things for him to watch that he's never seen:

    Psycho (the original)
    Sin City

    Fifth Element
    Mean Girls
    Lord of the Rings

    are some casual fun favourites

But if he is the type of person who appreciates Inception level complexity or the genre variety of Cloud Atlas then I highly recomend Mr Nobody.

Something you can do is find out what new movies he likes and find movies with the same director/writer

    Dark City
    Wristcutters
    Cecil B. Demented
    American Psycho

    The Vengeance series
    Paris, Je T'Aime
    The Road
    Lost in Translation
    The Machinist
    Breakfast on Pluto
    Happythankyoumoreplease
    Match Point
    Closer
    Away We Go
    V for Vendetta
    Lucky Number Slevin
Lars and the Real Girl - I liked this, I guess some others didn't quite so much
    Son of Rambow
    Burn After Reading
    Let the Right One In
    Milk
    Planet Terror/Grindhouse
    Rec

and finally Legend, because smurf you to whoever has never seen Tom Cruise in a movie about unicorns before

I tried to stick to mostly 2000's movies because if he hasn't seen much other than in the last five years, I'd say he might not be a fan of older stuff.

    Legend wins my vote lol

On that note, The Princess Bride. Labyrinth. And The Dark Crystal

What does your boyfriend even like? lol

I would say the more people who watch and enjoy Donnie Darko the better. Also Brick is a good one that I love to pop in from time to time. Same with Penelope

    Total Recall (Arnold version)
    Any old Miyazaki movie
The Matrix (original, the sequels are debatable, though I enjoyed the second one, I think everyone should watch the first one)
    Memento
    Fight Club
    Alien(s)
    Any old Pixar movies
    Jurassic Park
    The Land Before Time
    The Black Cauldron

This is hard. I'm going to pull out my hard drive. I spent a few years downloading my favorite movies
    Enemy of the State
    Event Horizon
Hancock (Is that old enough? I don't know when it came out. Loved the movie though)
    Independence Day
    Hook
    Hitch
    Interview with the Vampire
    Slither
    The Crow
    The Goonies
    The Monster Squad
    Unleashed
    Equilibrium
    Pandorum
    Sunshine
    The Faculty

Well, that hard drive didn't help quite as much as I thought it would. So I guess I'll stop there for now

I suggest Netflix or something if you don't already have it, otherwise this can get expensive or illegal xD

Edit: Just remembered. Everybody needs to see Moon. For only having like ... two actors, it's ridiculously good

Can't argue with Vyk's recommendations of the Matrix, Memento, Equilibrium or Fight Club.

    Some of my favourite films;
    Catch Me If You Can
The Departed (or the Hong Kong original, Infernal Affairs, for that matter)
    Casino Royale

    Goodies from my hard drive;
    (500) Days of Summer
    American History X
    Anchorman
    Cloverfield
Daybreakers (2009 film, but had a pretty limited release, so I don't know if you missed it. Vampire flick, but the good kind)
    Deception
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Gladiator
I am Legend (controversial ending aside, still good watching)
    Match Point
Mortal Kombat (because why the smurf not)
    Slumdog Millionaire
    Starship Troopers
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
    The Prestige
    Tropic Thunder
    V for Vendetta
    Zoolander

I'm guessing that by association of dating you he's already seen Heathers. If not, Heathers. I'd throw "Girl, Interrupted" and "Bram Stoker Dracula" in there too.

    A Knight's Tale
    Batman (1989)
    Batman Returns
    Beetlejuice
    Blue Brothers
    Constantine
    Dragonheart
    Ghostbusters
    Ghostbusters 2
    Hellboy
    Men in Black
    Pirates of the Caribbean
    The Mummy
    The Mummy Returns
    The Neverending Story
    Underworld
    Van Helsing
    X-Men
    X-Men 2

I'm not a movie fan at all, but there is some that I absolutely loved. I'm not gonna include comedies because everyones humour is different (Freddy Got Fingered is the funniest piece of television I have ever witnessed). If you haven't seen them, I'd recommend:

The Shawshank Redemption (obviously, but I think you have seen this already and you had better shown him by now )
    12 Angry Men
    The Apartment
The Matrix (the original was a complete film, the sequels I didn't get)
    District 9
    Big Fish
Dead Man's Shoes (you can watch this on YouTube)
The Blair Witch Project (I'm not into horrors and this wasn't like a Scream movie where a guy jumps out of a closet and frightens the trout out of you, it was just spooky)
    Avatar (which everyone has seen)

I could go on but those are what I'd recommend. I know for a fact that anyone within reason would have a an amazing time looking at them.
