FFIV- I'm going to attempt to play this game AGAIN

I didn't get super far last time, but a few games I was planning to play fell through and so I have time to try this one again!

Let us begin shall we! Any tips, tricks, advice, etc are welcome!

Part 1 - Dark Knight Cecil

So we start out with Cecil and some dudes on an airship. A few airships are seen, actually. They inform Cecil that they will soon be arriving over Baron.



It seems they've done something they aren't super happy about



That'll do it



Sounds like excuses to me

But before the conversation can go further, we are attacked by some monsters and Cecil shows off his cool skillz

Apparently there have been many more monster attacks recently



Considering this is a video game, yes probably.

We land in Baron and are greeted by an unfriendly fellow who is pleased that I have the crystal



So he takes me to see the king



Suspicious



Wooow really? Way to go behind my back Baigan



So I go in and give him the Crystal



He didn't take that well



Not well at all...



You just fired me and now you're giving me a job? Make up your mind King Kingsly



Just then, Kain bursts in all kung fu style, beating up the guards, sending them flying through windows

[Note: I may have taken some creative liberties with the story]



Cool, now I get a travel buddy



Yeah I don't... I don't know about that one

So I go chat things up with Kain and get some ~backstory~



Evil reasons



Cute

So I talk to the common folk and steal their treasures and such and head towards my room



Yes?



Kay



Yes I got that, thank you



But Cecil is not in the mood for chuckles



His evil majesty

So I finally get to go to bed and Cecil is having trouble sleeping, because he's staying up thinking about moral dilemmas and other such things

Take it from me, those never help you sleep



Rosa came to see me just as she said



By doing my job? Yes that is very strange behavior



Poor Cecil. Can't even look at her



D'awww



Not sure why they can't be together... I may have found out in the bit I played but I have forgotten. Are Dark Knights like Priests?

So Cecil heads to bed and we awake for our new journey the next day

And that's our introduction!

Part 2 - The Village of the Mist

So I wander around Baron and find out Cid has a prime piece of real estate. Once all of that is done, I head over to a cave



A mysterious voice. Obvs.

So I go further in



I would but I feel like I won't be able to progress if I do



This leads to my first BOSS FIGHT!!



Pretty straightforward. Don't attack when it turns to mist

So I defeat the dragon, leave the cave, and arrive in Mist



Oh look, Bombs

So they start fireing things



Yep. I told you, evil king



We go check out the tiny voice



Summoners they're called, says Kain. Thanks Kain.



Sad



!!!



Uh huh, Sure you are



So Kain asks what we're going to do about the girl



You can't really blame her for this one. "Come with the two men who killed your mom and destroyed your village" "Um no"

So she summons Titan to make us go away



Titan kicks out butt and causes a huge Earthquake

I hope you're enjoying this, shion. Here's a bit of advice, don't worry about grinding much in this part of the game. Wait until after you defeat the Earth Fiend.

Part 3: Rydia of the Mist

I take Cecil wandering through the desert until he finds a town in which to rest by a lake



Thank you nice Innkeeper!

So he puts her in bed and tries to have a conversation, which she does not respond to. Again, can't really blame her for not wanting to talk to the man who killed her mother and destroyed her town.



After being ignored, he lets her be and the two go to sleep.

Unfortunately, their rest is interrupted by some soldiers!



I do like Cecil. He seems like a good guy. So now we have another fight:



Followed by the General running away



They make a promise about it



And now we have one of the most iconic FF characters in our party!



That seems story relevant



?



Gee, I wonder who this could be



He guesses Rosa



She is muttering to herself and doesn't seem to realize I'm there



So we have our next objective!

So we head over to the waterway to head to the next Kingdom and then go to the Antlion cave



"Old man acting crazy in an old waterway? You must be Tellah!"



Yaaay another party member!

So we head further in



Kay



Cecil asks who Anna is



Tellah asks why we're headed for Damcyan



I'm expecting a boss fight

Speaking of which, Cecil asks about the upcoming boss fight



He also says we have to hurry because he has a bad feeling



So, I was mistaken in thinking that because that was a good save and rest point that I would finally be near the end.

WRONG

This dungeon is so friggin long and annoying my goodness

BUT FINALLY



So I heal with Rydia, attack with Cecil, and use magic with Tellah. After a little while, the octomammoth is defeated



And that's all for now!

Part 4: You Spoony Bard!

We finally exit the waterway and find Damcyan only to see



Oh look, some airships



Oh... oh dear

So we head over to see what's going on



That sounds bad



So Tellah and Edward the bard get in to a fight while Anna lay dying



That's still funny though

So for some reason, Tellah resorts to using his weak physical attacks instead of his powerful magic. I dunno



Anna calls off the fight



Golbez



Apparently during the attack, Anna and Edward's parents shielded him from arrows





Then Anna passes away



That was a fast promotion



Apparently he will go alone



Meanwhile, Edward isn't handling things well



He did just lose the love of his life. That's pretty sad



Nice speech from Cecil



Oh I see, he just wanted something from him



So he will help then?



Ew



Oh cool I get a hovercraft



Yaaaay new party member!



So some emotional scenes today! Now I'm going to be leaving tomorrow afternoon for the weekend so there won't be any updates until Monday. Hope you enjoyed

If you think the Waterway Dungeon is long... man you are really going to hate the two Tower dungeons and the two dungeons where you need float.

Part 5 - Anna The Undead

Alrighty, so my party hops on its awesome to the max hovercraft and head over to the Antlion Cave where Rydia's staff does mucho damage to giant turtles.

Before too long

So of course he gets attacked because everytime you try to show your friends something, you end up looking like a liar



This leads to a boss fight!



I basically heal with Edward, Chocobo with Rydia, and attack with Cecil.

I do feel a bit stupid though because I didn't realize Edward's "Heal" used items I thought it was like Pray in X. Sooo now I'm out of potions. Very fun



So we are off to cure Rosa!

Now am I missing something or does that town not have an item shop? Because I kind of need an item shop



Yay she woke up!



Liars



"I'm okay Cecil"
"Yeah okay fine, so who is Golbez?"



I thought the King always appointed the Red Wings captain



oh no I never would have seen that coming





Way to bring that up Rosa. INSENSITIVE



Oh dear, she seems to have a cold



NOT THICK ICE



But of course, Cecil ends up being talked in to it. Whoo!



"No you can't join us when you're so frail!"
"I'll be okay"
"Oh okay. Come along then"



I don't think anyone needs to see-

Random

So I enter this weird fight, and so appears the ghost of Anna!



Wouldn't that be an awesome playable character?



So I do and the fight ends



So all of that just happened

And with that we are off to the place that they mentioned earlier that I have already forgotten the name of!

Part 6 - Yangin' All Up On Here

So I head over to the mountain blocked by giant blocks of ice



She already told you she couldn't, gee whiz



Foot. DOWN



"Oh yeah I destroyed her village with fire and killed her mother. AWWKKWWARRDD"



Will she do it? TUNE IN NEXT TIME

Or right now



The fire actually moves around and attacks all of the ice. Its quite impressive



Yeah I got that, thank you



So we head on up the mountain, never to speak of this moment again



The monk starts kicking some butt



But everyone has their limits and we decide that limit is a bomb



So I didn't actually realize this was a boss fight until it turned in to this:



Speaking of Pray, it appears it is a command for Rosa! But it doesn't always work . Also, Edward dies way too easily

So the bomb explodes in to several mini bombs



This was quite the boss fight, I've gotta say

Well that is quite sad



I would say so



This is an unfortunate situation



BUT WAIT



First he tells us to bugger off because its not my business, but then Cecil and Edward are like "Yeah no, it kind of is"



Nothing like having a murderer on your side



It's always great when they give me specific directions like this!

Yes, of all the things that FF contributed to the world of RPGs it was the stereotype that Bards suck.

You just needed to change your formation to have three back row character so Edward could join Rosa and Rydia in the back with Yang and Cecil in the front. Edward works pretty well if you know his limitations though I'll admit Sing is a pretty useless skill in the original.
