Thread: Dyne

Ever since I was young I have considered this one of the best parts of VII. I really enjoy Barret's backstory as it does a great job of showing why he hated the Shinr aso much. (while also not justifying his actions, as he himself later admits) The confrontation with Dyne was also really poignant Just seeing this utter wreck of a human being, so tormented by grief and loss that he doesn't care about anything. And when he finds out Marlene is alive and his reaction is:
Dyne "So...... she's still alive... All right, Barret. I guess that means you and I gotta fight." [...] Eleanor's alone all by herself. I've got to take Marlene to her."

It's one of the great underrated segments of FFVII's story and Dyne is one of my favorite minor NPCs in all Final Fantasy.

Yeah, it was pretty epic. You know, I really did love the sidestories for the party members, particularly this one and that of Red XIII.

I think it adds to how much of a nice guy Barret really is. At first it seems he is simply a guy with a grudge and anger issues, but this scene shows just how much he cares for the people around him. Especially Marlene since she isn't even his daughter but everything he does is for her at the end of the day.

When i was younger I didn't quite understand why Dyne would want to fight Barret after hearing the (good) news about Marlene being alive, but now I can appreciate the total mental breakdown he has suffered and how hatred has all but consumed him. Poor guy, since all he wanted was the best for the towns people, just like Barret did.

It was a good story. Didn't care much for the setting, but it was a good story. The fight itself was a little too easy when I started poisoning the mofo.

I really like this part of the game too. It is really interesting to learn about Barret and Dyne. It is really touching.

As I mentioned in another thread a while back, Dyne's final few lines choke me up even just reading/typing them. Easily the most enduring emotional moment of the game for me.
