It's really hard between Tidus and Auron, but I'll go with Tidus. I don't get why people in general don't like him.
Auron for playable char, Maechen for NPC.
Auron of course. He's badass.
It was between Tidus and Auron for me, but I know without even looking at the poll that Auron will win so I chose Tidus...out of pity xD
Dead or alive, Auron is a true man of honor. Unlike most FF characters, he didn't let death stand in his way. You could kill that guy and he'd still come back from the dead to knock you on your ass.

Auron's mysterious silent archetype was a bit too on the nose and over the top. Kimahri does it better. I just wish his overDrive was more useful
