    Moogle Noah's Gift

Been a while since we did this thread. For those who have played the game, Noah the Great Mage gave his three students different gifts before his passing. To Doga, he gave him his mastery of all magic; to Unei, he gave her power over the realm of dreams; and to his greatest and favorite student Xande, he gave him the gift of mortality. As anyone who has played the games, we all know how Xande felt about his gift but what do you feel is the message and themes the game is trying to convey to the player about this nugget of backstory?

Noah is a poor judge of character? I mean, it should have been entirely obvious if Xande was the type of person who would take that well or not.

I think the message is that we should consider the freedom to live our life for it's own sake as a gift, not a weakness.

I don't know, we never got to see what Xande was like before his gift, he might have been a swell guy.

Meh, 'swell guys' don't try to f*** up the entire world because they can't face their own mortality. I mean, weren't they all originally mortal to begin with? Its not even like his own eternal life was striped from him.

Xande was pretty ignorant if he didn't appreciate the gift of mortality.

The game is very vague about that actually, but considering Doga and Unei talk as though they can live forever and were grateful to physically die, I would assume Xande may have been immortal and then stripped of it.

Possibly. The take I got it was that they were made to be immortal and denied the ability to die, that gift was reserved to Xande alone. So they were basically bound to servitude for the rest of all existence and he gets to go and screw off and do whatever he wanted.

That is not all because not everyone wants it so this "he has chosen to give him the chance to live a normal life" is not as important for some people as for others. Some don't understand it, some simply don't want it and gladly throw it away for power and some are okay with it.

Well, I wouldn't really want to bestow that much power on someone who saw it as a privilege rather then a burden.

I played and beat the game, but I don't remember any of this.
