I couldn't care less for Minecraft, but I just wanted to say if I were Notch I'd be super proud of myself. Work hard to build something you love, and then make out with $2.5bn at the end of it all is freakin' amazing - I'd be so chuffed.
"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."
The irony of this is that now one of the biggest selling PSN titles will actually be a Microsoft game. So now the MS fanboys can shove that in Sony fanboy's faces and I'll get to laugh at the ensuring inability for them to argue otherwise. Apoplectic rage fits incoming
When you realize the same sum of money could be used to fund a space program it really gets you thinking how wasteful Microsoft are with their money.
I agree with Vivi. Notch gets the better end of the deal here. You can pretty much retire and live off that kind of money. I've seen it theorized elsewhere that Microsoft may want to use the rights to make Minecraft versions of their games in the same manner people are doing with lego. Minecraft Halo!
Already a thing. http://news.xbox.com/2014/05/games-m...t-halo-mash-up
While I agree much more money should go to all kinds of space related programs, it isn't really profitable. Not yet anyway, so they could either fund a space program and we would be like "cool" or they could buy Minecraft and make double that in merchandise.
They are company so I guess it's obvious why Minecraft won.
Profit, no. Space programs don't generate immediate profit. Instead it provides new technologies to improve our quality of life. Like LED lights, Fire resistant material for structural building, enriched BABY food, computer advancements etc etc
Plus if they just get to freaking space already they can start mining the trout out of the solar system and profittttt $$$$$
Space.
Instead we'll waste that money on Minecraft cause you can build a blocky spaceship in it!
