Ridiculous hair began as a stylistic choice to compensate for the fact that some mangaka were (and still are) incapable of drawing a variety of faces. In a modern RPG with graphics that can make a PS3 blush with envy there is no reason for there to be only seven faces, and thus no reason for goofy hair. Wacky hair needs to die, alongside huge swords and whiny teenage leads. Put the dog down.

QFT. They're impeccably well-groomed but there's nothing unrealistic about them. Those could totally be worn. By models, of course, but still. They have nothing on Cloud's chocobo-hair and those smurfing hair antlers...

Cloud and Sephiroth's hairstyles were actually kinda tame. Cloud's was just anime bedhead. It ain't got trout on Seymour and Ultimecia. FF13's hairstyles weren't terrible either. Things have been slowly getting better in terms of overall character designs IMO.

Does Yang from FF4 count? IIRC he had the Manchu ponytail. Most of his head was bald (egg-shaven). Just the tail of hair at the back. That counts right?

Lol there is just no variety in how any of them look to warrant these crazy hairstyles. They're 5 white dudes of whom look like the same age and stuff.

Look at FF8: Squall had his sorta spikey hair and fluff. Zell had his spikey hair and looked completely different. Irvine had long hair. FF9 didn't really have humans so doesn't count.
FF12 had Vaan with Tidus hair and Basch. And Baltheir looked pretty different too.

These dudes all look the same with crazy FF7 style hair xD
