Saturday Morning Cartoons are no more

How do you feel about this news? Have you grown up knowing that every Saturday morning you will be catching some of your favorite cartoons or shows meant for kids? I feel kind of sad knowing that Saturday morning cartoons are now a thing of the past, but I should be glad for cable networks for channels like Cartoon Network and such. Share your thoughts.

I heard this on NPR today. Apparently it was like this for a while now. So its not like the kids feel like they're missing out. Obviously they weren't watching very many Saturday morning cartoons anyway. It just feels bad to those of us who grew up with it, but then again, none of us were currently watching Saturday morning cartoons either. So in actually they've been kinda dead already for a long time :/
But then again, I'm all about nostalgia. I have tons of old cartoons downloaded and on DVD and favorited on services like Netflix and Amazon Instant Video :3
Not to mention some of the best cartoons didn't even come out until I was grown up, and still managed to enjoy them (Invader Zim, and Avatar: The Last Airbender to name a couple)
Cartoons aren't what they used to be.
I'm not overly heartbroken by this, but Saturday morning cartoons were always my thing as a kid. Having only 1 tv and my dad hogging it when he was home, I was specifically given Saturday morning cartoons. That was our ritual. My dad and me, hanging out, eating breakfast, watching cartoons.

I think the rise of the internet and stream services killed it. We don't have to wait for stuff. If you want to watch whatever cartoon, marathon it on netflix or youtube or whatever. It's just so much easier to get the content we want, even for the kids we have. Your kid whines about no adventure time being on? Watch a tivo'd one or go to netflix and pick one of the season. Netflix has a "Netflix Kids" for a reason.
It's sad but I've stopped watching cartoons on Saturday mornings a long time ago because they aren't what they used to be. So it's already been a thing of the past to me.
I had a good time growing up and watching cartoons on both Saturday and a Sunday morning but this doesn't make me sad. I'm an adult, I don't watch cartoons now. Yeah kids now will miss out, but then again I missed out on iPads, Netflix and hell the internet itself as a kid, so what can you do? The times they are a-changin'.
I didnt watch Saturday Morning Cartoons. How could you sit around on a weekend watching cartoons when there were video games to be played!

Adventure Time is a good show. Its my 3yr old nieces favorite. She calls it 'TimeTime' and she loves Jake. I use babysitting her as an excuse to watch the show.
As for me TMNT was best cartoon ever, but i will never watch that michael bay movie.

Every station had Saturday morning cartoons. I remember watching the Smurfs, Fat Albert & Mr. T on Saturday mornings on NBC.
It's a shame CW is giving up on it's shows. Just before they completed DBZ Kai.

So they can enjoy cartoons whenever, wherever, and aren't restricted to a specific timespan once a week. why would anyone think this is a bad thing? We would have killed to have such a privilege as kids.
Crying over this is like crying that you don't have to walk to a payphone to make an away-from-home phonecall now, or that you don't need to pay $4 to call 411 to find out where the nearest pizza delivery place is.

I never suggested that this was a bad thing. It's more of a thing of novelty that's never going to be a thing again. Saturday mornings used to be a time when we would be able to watch cartoons, and it was also a good time for companies to advertise specifically for kids knowing that they would be watching. It's just now replaced by the Internet and cable networks specific for cartoons.

I used to watch Fox Kids every Saturday morning as a kid. Got kind of sick with all the jumping around they did. First they were on 41, then 62, then 29, then 38, which was a channel we couldn't get on the TV in the front room at the time, but could get in my brother's room just fine so we had to tape it in there to watch later.
STAY ON ONE CHANNEL!
Then the WB had its own Saturday morning lineup: Pokemon, Jackie Chan Adventures, Yu-Gi-Oh, Cardcaptor Sakura, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, good times.
That's it! It's decided! I'm going to be one of those moms that restricts TV watching to just once a week--Saturday mornings. I already have a pretty healthy digital collection of cartoons.
Actually, the more I think about this the more I like it. We have a media machine set up already; I'll just make a playlist that the kids can open up on Saturday morning while I sleep in. And it will be a sacred time.
