Let's discuss Nintendo's greatest console.
I have never played one.
Anyone who ever played it is due to start developing eye cancer soon so be thankful.
I kind of wish we could get some of those games on the virtual console ... or really sort of remastered with colors other than red. The Wario game looks like great fun. The Mario Bros gameis probably the only iteration of the original arcade game that I'd enjoy playing. Atlus' Jack Bros looks quality as well.
We don't talk about the Virtual Boy. Ever.
It was... interesting though the headaches were real. I never picked one up but I did play a demo version of it at Toys R Us back in the day and it was pretty awful experience. The real shame of the system wasn't that it was bad but that it led to the departure of one of the greatest minds in Nintendo, Gunpei Yokoi, the Father of the GameBoy.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
I was always interested in it, but it died before I had a chance to check it out
I got one for Christmas back during the release. smurfing thing took 8 AA batteries! I had Mario's Tennis and Red Alert. If I played for more than a half hour, I would get a splitting headache and have to shut it off and go to bed. Mom returned it a week later and I just got an obscenely large Toys R Us gift card that I spent on legos.
I...I hate being one of these people. Because when I read contrary comments like what I am about to say, I almost always think the person is full of s***.
Anyway, while I never owned one, I did have a friend that let me borrow one for a very extensive period of time. While I certainly do remember feeling a little weird after using one, I never experienced the eye strain that people talked about. If anything, I was more annoyed by having to use the stand that it was on. You could take it off the stand, but good luck getting in a comfortable position since you can't officially strap it to your head or anything. Thought from a kid's perspective the thing would put too much strain on the neck for that, anyway.
Mario Tennis and that other Mario game where it's sort of like Mario Bros. on two 2D planes was alright.
By no means am I defending the Virtual Boy for the record, though I think that's apparent. I just never got the eye strain, but I can easily imagine why other people did.
I remember trying it a few times while it was on display at the store, but it was always a disappointment.
...
I 100% believe the people who get the eye strain, but I'm sure there are people who aren't affected by it. I've known a couple of people who said they have no issues with it.
The Virtual Boy
THE VIRTUAL BOY
Ugh. I remember trying the spaceship flying game on the display model at Target. What a load of crap. Though the 3-D was pretty realistic. I think that's what gave you the eye-strain...
