Honestly, I don't really know, DQ was never one of my top series and I've come to feel it's best years are behind it. I mean I love the world design of VIII but I frankly wish it had been given to a better game. I'm currently playing through DQIX which has been an interesting experience, I'm happy they finally found a nice balance for the Job System but I'm annoyed that the mechanics really are built around the post-game, so I think I agree that I would love a return to a strong single player focus. I'd love either to see IX's Job System expanded a bit or maybe a return to the monster collecting or better yet a hybrid system but with DQ Monsters out, I feel that is a pipe dream. Most of the other suggestions I would like to see would probably change the formula too much and not make it DQ anymore so I won't waste my time suggesting them.
As for platform, DQ has never been a technical powerhouse compared to its contemporaries so platform seems like a moot issue to me. Frankly, I kind of wish they would just finally release DQVII over here but apparently SE has lost faith in the franchise doing well in the West which is why the only DQ games we've been seeing since IX has been for mobile. I'm not sure if DQ has a real audience out here in the West, we're too spoiled on glitzy graphics, moe, and over-the-top gameplay mechanics to play through a classic like DQ.
Honestly, now that I think about it, I think it would be cool for SE to pull a Mega Man 9 and make a retro 8-bit entry. They can keep some of the newer additions to the series like the Mini-Medals, Alchemy Pot and maybe bring back the town building mechanic but it might be interesting to see XI as a game looking like DQIII or IV. Especially if it gets a multi-console/platform release.
