In a recent interview with the European branch of Square-Enix, Type-0 Director Hajime Tabata confirmed that Type-0's original theme song ZERO, performed by Japanese Rock band Bump of Chicken would remain unaltered in all versions of Type-0 to be released next March.
Some fans wondered since some of Square-Enix's previous theme song's received either dubs like Eyes on Me or Melodies of Life, while recent console entry FFXIII was given a new theme song performed by Leona Lewis. Tabata decided he wanted to keep the theme the same for fans of the original PSP release to keep the original's feel. Bump of Chicken also agreed and wished to keep the song unchanged for the HD release. The song will now feature subtitles so non-Japanese speaking fans can understand and appreciate the song's meaning and connection to the game's overall themes. Here's the song in question for Western fans who haven't had the chance to listen to this gorgeous song.
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD releases March 2015 first in North America and then Japan and PAL regions. It is directed by Hajime Tabata who is also the director of Crisis Core: FFVII and Final Fantasy XV.
As much as I want to listen to this, I'm not. I never got around to listening to it when the PSP version launched in Japan, and it would be a shame to spoil it now. I know it's not a spoiler but it will sound even better hearing it for the first time playing the game
I'm also glad that Tabata decided to keep the original song, as My Hands by Leona Lewis in FFXIII felt very out of place. Having subtitles to actually understand the song is a nice inclusion. Hopefully they won't be singing about putting on their make up!
Oh my. Having now listened to it, I feel like I should have followed fat_moogle's lead. That song is beautiful. Hearing it in HD is going to be masterful
It reminds me of weird mature anime I watched as a kid and always enjoyed the ending themes to during the credits. Like Ninja Scroll, or Mermaid's Scar (I think?). I dunno. Weird corrolation. But yeah
There are so many reasons why keeping this is a good choice. Apart from anything else it's just a damn good song. I like Bump of Chicken quite a bit. The most important thing is that it's very deliberately a Final Fantasy song. Even though I haven't played Type-0 yet, I've listened to this on the OST dozens of times.
