    Smile Watchmen

I make no secret that this is my absolute favourite comic. The flawed personalities of the heroes and alternate history timeline that has been created are both fascinating to me. The idea of superheroes interacting with actual events is such a great one, like all but saying the Comedian took out Kennedy and then him and Doctor Manhattan single handedly taking out Vietnam.

Have you read it or watched the movie? Who were your favourite characters? What were your favourite moments?

Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Ozymandias, the Comedian, his rapiness notwithstanding.

I've only seen the movie, and enjoyed it immersely. Was disappointed that it didn't so well at the box office, but I contribute that to it being sold as an action movie instead of a 3 hour feature film that possessed some deep themes and made you think.

I recently reread this and honestly thought it was trout. I used to love it, but now it's just...no.

I do LOVE Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan's stories, though. If the entire comic was about them, it'd be great. But it focuses more on smurfing Laurie and Dan, both of who are completely insufferable.

I also didn't care for the pirate comic-within-a-comic. I get what it was trying to do, but it was just too much for me. (Although, there is a panel once Ozymandias has summoned the squid, and you see the newstand guy and the kid embracing as they're being blown up. That kind of gave me feels.)

I also think I like the movie better.

Yeah the pirate comic was a bit too much, I agree there. I also think the Comedian is a fascinating character and his world view was great. This is not to marginalise the very serious issue of rape, though clearly there was more to his relationship with Sally than that.

Yeah, upon finishing the novel, I wasn't sure how I felt about the fact that Sally was in love/had been pining for him for years. It made me feel very uncomfortable, because I'm not sure it was necessary or brought anything to the table, really.

I enjoyed both. I read the novel just before the movie came out, as it had become a big thing @ that time. I really like the part where Rorschach blows up the child killer.

Rorschach is by far the most interesting character. His terrible childhood and how it all skewed his stringent morality was pretty warped, but it made you understand him more. He was a fanatic, but you could understand why.

I think that Sally and The Comedian's story does an excellent job of expressing how complicated feelings and emotion are, and that when it comes down to it, nothing is ever black and white. It gave their story humanity for me.

I only ever saw the movie but goddamn I loved Rorschach! The "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!" gave me chills.

Yeah, fair enough. You make a good point.

It still just made me feel very uncomfortable, and not in the good way.

It is one of my favorites and I don't mind the pirate comic. I learned to appreciate it overtime, but I can just skip it if I want to. I also read this a little bit before the movie came out. I felt there were a couple of casting choices that could've been better and one scene wasn't as impactful as it was in the film

Watchmen is one of the most well-written books of all time, let alone comic books. I also enjoyed the movie.

Watchmen is good. I read it after watching the movie, which was difficult. The comic and the movie were so close it made it hard to read.

    But I enjoyed it.

I haven't read it, just seen the movie. It was alright - although overall I did feel it was overhyped a lot at the time. I felt many other films were more entertaining, and quite a few of them more interesting. Still, worth seeing. Certainly better than the latest X-Men film, but that's was a pet peeve storyline for me, so yeah.
