I'll chime in cause I loved Gambit when I first read the X-Men. Perhaps because I lived in Louisiana at the time, and he felt like a homer. I like how his superpower (as silly as it might be) ties into his character. And I like his swagger. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Gambit was probably my favourite more often than not when I was a kid. Accent + Attitude = Awesome.

According to this source, Gambit is a top-tier character in his first 1-on-1 fighting game outing.
My brother and I used to play this game as a team (I guess on an emulator? maybe) and we'd switch up as Wolverine and Gambit.
Kicked that game's ass, we did
He was, and is still among my first favorite X-Mens since I became a fan as of the 1992 animated TV series. "Life don't get much better than this!"
