Is it the best Trek? It might just be the best Trek. Let's talk about it.
Favorite episode? Mine's Trials and Tribble-ations, of course.

It's definitely damn good. I don't know if I have a favorite episode.
I'd say Far Beyond the Stars and In the Pale Moonlight are my favourite. Trials and Tribbleations is cool as hell, but it's never really anything more than a cool nostalgia Madden fanboy freakout.
Also, everything involving Garek is pretty smurfing sweet too. Especially the one where he goes nuts and plays a game of cat and mouse with O'Brien on Empok Nor.
I had a cat named Dax growing up.
Nah man. Nothing will ever beat TNG. Though I still have to watch DS9 binge-style in sequence. Thanks to this thread I may do just that.
Loooove DS9, and yes I think it might be The Best Trek, largely because rooting it in the station meant they had much more opportunity for long-running arcs and stuff.
Plus, there's all those derpy Ferengi episodes, and those are always great!
Best trek is between this and TNG.
Hard to say if I have a favourite episode. I was a fan of "In the pale moonlight" myself but it's become such an overly frequently given answer, almost always given for this series, I'm inclined to say something else. Plus it's about as "un-Rodenberry" as the entire show ever got, as great as that episode was in and of itself.
I really liked the political stuff at the end of season 2.
so I just watched Far Beyond the Stars and WOW, I might have a new favorite episode.
I was coming here to say Far Beyond the Stars. I thought that episode was genius. So nerd-tastic, fan-pleasing, but with depth, good acting, andnhumor it succeeds at avoiding straight gimmickry and being a legitimate episode in the series.
DS9 is highly underrated, and it's good to see so many of you appreciate it.
I tried watching it when it was in its early years, and TNG was still out, and I was too much of a TNG fanboy. Something about the stationary life just didn't jive with me. I loved how it fit into the show though. Same timeframe as TNG with a handful of cross-over characters, and even some of the TNG crew basically retiring to DS9. So while I never really got into it the way it probably deserves, I appreciate that it existed, and of the few episodes I watched and enjoyed in the beginning, I think the one where Q goes there to "awaken" another Q, and they play games chasing each other across the station and stuff was probably the one that amused me the most. I should go back and give the series a go one day. One of my best friends absolutely adores the show
But, there's this guy:

A smurfing shapeshifter! And data's spiritual twin!
Also, best non-intellectual humor in the whole series comes in the form of this guy:

Also, also, DS9 has the absolute best cast of love-to-hate characters in all of Star Trek. I've never loved and hated a character as much as Gul Dukat. One of my favorite characters from any show of any genre ever. Marc Alaimo's the smurfing trout, man. First Romulan of TNG, first Cardassian ever, and also SHION, ALSO, he was in a TNG episode where he played poker with Data and smurfing spoke French! What more do you want!?

There. You happy?
It made me sad that they "retired" Data
