Yeah, this. When I did play somewhat often I had memorized a few openers and responses to openers (I have no clue what the terminology is). Other than that, it was just staring at the current position of all the pieces and trying to think of where to place them for greatest effect from there. Certainly not the best way. It's been so long now, I'm not sure I remember exactly what each piece can do, and forget trying to piece together any sort of strategy.

I did really enjoy playing it though.
