I heard , and I''m sure someone will either correct me on this or clarify, that SE did send them a C&D letter but the project leader ignored it and released it anyway.

They actually met in a meeting and tried to work something out, and then the project leader released it anyway ahead of schedule behind the rest of his team's backs. +5 Renegade points.
