Default Favorite Beat 'em up games

What are some of your favorite beat 'em up games?

Mine are Battletoads/Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, Cyborg Justice, Comix Zone, TMNT II, the old Power Rangers games, and Fighting Force. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Also, beat 'em up games should not have platforming. Platforming in beat 'em up games are an abomination against mankind and need to be stop! I just want to punch people! Is that so wrong? Don't answer that.

I don't have much experience in this genre, but I do enjoy the Simpson's Arcade Game, Turtles in Time, and the Scott Pilgrim game.

Oh, Comix Zone is great too. I forgot about that one until I saw it in your post.

This thread would go well w/ 's Arcade thread.

For me it would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Turtles in Time, X-Men, Captain America & the Avengers, The Simpsons & Captain Commando.

For the home console, the aforementioned TiT, Hyperstone Heist, Streets of Rage, Final Fight & Captain Commando.

That's it, you're coming over to my place and playing Streets of Rage.

Oh, I forgot another good one. Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage.

I've played various Marvel beat em ups as well, but I don't remember them that well. THey were all rentals for me that I only got to experience in short bursts.

Streets of Rage II and River City Ransom are easily my favorite two, and Mighty Final Fight is a pretty easy third. I can play through all three of those games any day.

Lower on the list are the Simpsons arcade game, the Turtles arcade game, and Hyperstone Heist/Turtles in Time. They are all rather fun, but I often don't bother to finish them.

    Guardian Heroes (Saturn/360)
Return of Double Dragon (Super Famicom)
    Ninja Baseball Bat Man (arcade)
    The Punisher (arcade)
Battle Circuit (Arcade) - basically a reimagining of Captain Commando
Dungeons & Dragons (Arcade, PSN, XBL)
Streets of Rage 1 and 2
    Double Dragon Advance (GBA)
    Guardians: Denjin Makai 2 (Arcade)
    Sailor Moon (Genesis)
    Armored Warriors (arcade)
    Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (arcade)
    Panzer Bandit (PSX)
    Gourmet Sentai Barayarou (Super Famicom)
    Shonen Ninja Sasuke (Super Famicom)
    River City Ransom
    Pu-Li-Ru-La (arcade/Saturn)
    ALIENS VS. PREDATOR!!!!!!! (arcade)
    Gear Fighter Dendoh (PSX)
    Final Fight 3
    Dragon Valor (PSX)
Nekketsu Oyako "Hot Blooded Family" (PSX/Saturn)
    Mighty Final Fight
    Vendetta (Arcade)
    Dynamite Cop (arcade, Dreamcast)
Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Deka (arcade, Saturn, PS2)
    Battletoads (Arcade)
Captain America and the Avengers (arcade)
    X-Men Mutant Apocalypse (SNES)
Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder (arcade)

There's one on PSX that I really loved that I can't remember the name of. There's like a secret agent character, a little girl who's a maid who fights using a broom, and a woman who uses kung fu. The game was in 3D. I think you were on a boat. Really wish I could remember the name of it.

I also really hate how a lot of these games remained arcade-only.
Xenogears is the tragic story of how your whole life can take a crappy turn, just because you happened to see a lady in a wedding dress before her wedding.

OMG, you actually played that! I so want to play that. Saw it on a AVGN channel & wish they'd put it on Nintendo's Wii U eShop.

I also forgot Golden Axe. That one was solid.

Just by the name alone I could already tell that Ninja Baseball Bat Man is the greatest game ever made, and I was not disappointed.

Pocket Fighter was the very first fighting game I ever played. It was super fun and I enjoyed it.

Generally not a fan of beat em up games, though, because they have generally gone like the following: I, not owning any beat em up games at all, am goaded into playing with a friend who knows all the buttons and moves and is a freaking genius and plays the game every night with their older siblings meanwhile I'm flopping around falling off platforms and dying or not doing any damage and ultimately end up with my ass handed to me in a 0-7 score or something. That's not fun.

You're getting fighters mixed up with beat 'em ups, which I can understand given the genre name. A beat 'em up is usually a side scroller where you fight a bunch of enemies, and some of them are co-op so you play together. Though games like Double Dragon and Cyborg Justice does have a versus mode to them.

btw do you want to play Soul Calibur?
