:monster: What is the oldest RPG you own?

Not played, I'm talking actually own and to make this more interesting, I'm only going to allow things you have a physical copy of personally.

My oldest RPG I own is probably Hydlide for the NES (which no one should play) which actually came out two months before Dragon Warrior which is my second oldest RPG I own. What about you?

inb4 someone comes in and argues the rules are not fair because they have a game on their PC but no longer own the physical disks to install it or the game was only available through download but it still runs on their game system.

If you count The Legend of Zelda as an RPG, then that.

    If not, probably Pokemon Red.

That would probably be Final Lap Twin on the TurboGrafx-16.

Do ports of older games count? Because if so that would have to go to Final Fantasy I. If not, Final Fantasy VII.

Every time someone counts Zelda as an RPG a puppy dies.

Final Fantasy I on the NES or, as Pike suggested Legend of Zelda.

Someone threw out my NES and games when I was a kid. I had Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy. So now all that's left is my Genesis collection. And of those I believe Shining in the Darkness is the eldest

I actually would count Zelda to be honest, it was one of the titles that inspired Dragon Quest after all.

It also paved the way for things like Fable and Dark Souls, which while light on RPG elements, definitely have the story and stat progression and character building, along with Zelda's action and progression methods. But then I have to concede that Darksiders has the exact same things and somehow I have trouble feeling that that is an RPG lol But I think action-rpg is a broad enough term to cover some more ambiguous titles

I don't know, it plays essentially identically to something like, say, The Binding of Isaac which I would not consider to be an RPG.

Anyways I take back my earlier post, I just remembered that I own about 200 Commodore 64 games and I am 99% sure that I've got a text-based RPG in there somewhere.

My first RPG was Adventure for Atari.

At least, I think that counts as an RPG. You were a square hunting dragons. Though when I was a kid I thought they were ducks.

I don't have it anymore though; when I got SNES for Christmas my grandma decided I didn't need Atari anymore.

Oldest RPG I currently own would probably be... Illusion of Gaia for SNES? I think? It's actually Ashley's but it's been in my possession for like 17 years so it's mine now.

Interesting game. That was actually the first action-adventure game to ever be released. I wouldn't mind trying it out for myself some day.

    They do look like ducks.
