Seeing how Squenix is giving Mana and SaGa some love for their anniversaries, does anyone think they might do the unthinkable and throw this beloved classic a bone that is more than just a port?

True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
Celebrate Chrono Trigger's 20-year anniversary by buying Cosmic Star Heroine, that's my plan.
It would be nice...
But probably not.
Square-Enix: "Does this game have the words Final and Fantasy in the title?"
"No."
Square-Enix: "F*** it. Back to taking half a decade plus to make a new FF."
Honestly, making a re-make just because of the anniversary seems kind of stupid. To re-make a title you need the right platform/technology point for the look you are going for, the right market conditions, and most importantly of all the right people in place. Trying to push it out for an arbitrary date just seems like it would spell bad news.

Technically a remake wouldn't really need all the people and seeing how we've marched into next-gen, I don't see a problem with choosing a platform. Though I'm thinking smaller actually, I doubt we would get a remake or something like Chrono Break but SE could still hire Mitsuda and Kato to come in and work on a smaller scale project like a short OVA, fan video or maybe a light novel series with an accompanied remix soundtrack.
I'm frankly curious to see if SE will acknowledge it's existence for it's 20th anniversary beyond re-releasing a port for the PS4 or WiiU at a budgeted price. I mean SaGa is getting 2 new titles and a port for its 25th and the producer of the Mana franchise has teased that we will see something this year as well to mark the 25th Anniversary for the Seiken Denetsu series as well as them porting Rise of Mana to Vita. I figure Chrono is a fan favorite franchise from the 16-bit era celebrating a milestone birthday and just kind of feel like SE would probably throw it a bone or two.

With both of those projects happening right now for their 25th, I wouldn't be surprised to not hear anything about CT for another 5 years. I could see them not wanting to do too many anniversary projects at one and deciding to leave CT out until it hits 25.
