I find it strange that people with full time jobs still go for pay-as-you-go dealies. Maybe it's different whereever you are, but they're almost never cheaper to use than proper plans are over here.

It's definitely not something I decided on a whim. 99% of the IMing I do is via either FB, Skype, or WhatsApp, I don't use any data since free Wifi in my area is incredibly good, and I make about 1 phone call a month.
All in all I spend £5 a month maximum, which is fine by me. Not to mention the freedom of not having a contract phone.
I don't know if you're in the US, but don't you have to pay to receive texts and calls there on pay-as-you-go? Because we don't here, which would also make it significantly cheaper.
Well see, if I had your usage with my current plan (which is independent of my phone), I'd be at less than that a month.

Mine was the same as Pike's. Think it was Nokia 5110 or 5210 or something and it was cool as smurf. And it had 'Snake'. I miss that game *sigh*
Yeah, the 5110 was the phone *everyone* had when I was a teen. I, however, was progressive and futuristic so I bought the 3210 instead which was slightly newer than the 5110. I remember all those commoners being like "lol it probably has terrible reception it doesnt even have an antenna".
Actually, did some more research. That's definitely not a 5110 pike posted. It looks a lot more like the 6110, which was significantly better.

I think it had a fantastic design (and I still do, i guess) and I really liked the features it had too, but then I stabbed the display with the edge of my computer case.

I had this lovely thing
I got the upgraded Sony Ericsson Equinox when it came out too, which was quite lovely.
It's a necro, but I'll bite.
A Philips Savvy was my first ever mobile phone. It could call and it could text, and that was it. No fancy Snake game, no custom ring tones etc. It was basically a cordless housephone that Philips had converted into a mobile phone...

From there I went on to an indestructible Nokia 3310, the piece of crap Sony Ericsson T100, a hand-me-down Sony Ericsson T610, Nokia 6500S, Sony Ericsson W595 flowery thing, a Samsung Galaxy S3, right through to now with the iPhone 6s Plus (which is the longest I've ever stuck with one phone, but after 5 years its age is showing)

It was definitely a Nokia but I can't remember the model. I had it for a couple years until Miriel bought me a Razr so I could text.

I had at least one other phone first, but the earliest one I can clearly recall was my white LG Chocolate slide phone.
Calling? And Texting? AND an MP3 player? 4 GB memory card? THE FUTURE IS NOW.
