75. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo Wii)

Twilight Princess follows our hero Link, who's peaceful existence in his little village is abruptly interrupted by unknown intruders one day. Suddenly he finds himself somewhere unknown and somehow transformed in to a wolf.

The version I played was on the Wii. To slash Link's sword you need to actually move the remote in different ways for different attacks. Different objects could be set to the arrow buttons and set to B for use. Aiming would require pointing the remote to the screen. In this game, Link will also turn in to a wolf, where he will gain different skills such as being able to use his senses to see things he normally wouldn't, as well as being able to dig.

General impressions:
This is actually the last game I played for my list. I'd tried it briefly before but I wasn't too sure what to expect. Although I like it, it is by no means my favourite Zelda game. A lot of it had to do with the difficulty and my lack of skill with the Wii remote. The game was also straight up creepy at certain points, but I did like the way they used it and it gets better as it goes. It was a very solid and decent game and I'd recommend it to any Zelda fan, but to me it doesn't stand out in the series. I will say its reminds me a tremendous amount of Ocarina of Time, from locations to pacing, especially in the beginning. So that was really interesting as well.

Story:
The story is very interesting and my favourite part of the game. It told a very interesting story and it told it well. The game really had me invested to see what would happen next. It had a good amount of suspense which I really enjoyed and I didn't always know where the story was going. There were a few obvious things, like when (SPOILER)Midna calls Zelda the Twilight Princess and I was automatically thinking "I thought she was the Twilight Princess?" but in general I wasn't always sure what would happen next, which was a positive. Overall it was really interesting and it had great atmosphere.

Gameplay:
The gameplay was the hard part for me. I'm just not good with the controls, so even weak enemies could prove to be a challenge. Not to mention I'm not always the best at puzzles, but this one wasn't one of the more challenging ones in the series as far as that went. I do think some of Link's gadgets become more useful and interesting, such as the boomerang and the iron boots.

World:
The world was very interesting, especially since it had two parts. The world of light and the world of twilight. The world of twilight was creepy as all heck, especially early on in the game, but the world of light was kind of darker and more drab on its own. But I did enjoy seeing the differences between the two and the effects that each one had.

Characters:
It's a Zelda game so there isn't a large importance played on characters. But Midna was certainly an interesting sidekick and I grew to like her more as time went on. She certainly occupied a bigger role than most sidekicks in the series. There were a few characters who stood out here and there, but it was nothing special.

Overall a strong game in the Zelda series, but a bit too difficult for my personal tastes. Still, it had an interesting story and it conveyed a great tone.
